Buckinghamshire / Hedgerley to Lavendon 1700´s
« on: Friday 28 April 17 22:07 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help with a possible movement of a couple, please. They are Robert Johnson & wife Mary.

I have been looking for the couple that lived in Lavendon. I could find no marriage for them there, but however I have found one in Hedgerley. It does seem quite a distance, so I am probably barking up the wrong tree.

I have the following information:-

Robert Johnson & Mary Dean both of Chalfont St. Peter, married 27 Jan 1722/23 at St Mary the Virgin, Hedgerley, Bucks.

Robert & Mary had a son William who was baptised on 10 July 1726 in Great Marlow. However, if they then moved to Lavendon, they might have had William re-baptised 18 Dec 1726 at Lavendon. All their other children were baptised in Lavendon.

Northamptonshire / Cook family Great Houghton
« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 13:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi I´m looking to what happened to this family of Cook´s from Great Houghton.

James Cook (bapt. Nov 12th 1743 at 29 yrs) married Sarah Emerton on 8 Jan 1746 in Gt. Houghton.
James & Sarah had the following children:-
James (bapt. 14 May 1749)
Sarah (bapt. 9 Feb 1752)
Mary (bapt. 26 Aug 1753)
Martha (bapt. 2 Jul 1758)
John (bapt. 14 Jun 1761)

Sarah who was baptised in 1752 was buried 18 Aug 1763, and it was noted that her mother Sarah was a widow.

I can not find any records of James burial, or Sarah re marrying, or what happened to her family.

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / marriage lookup

Could anyone assist with a marriage that took place in Lavendon on 21 October 1754. The marriage was between a Samuel Betherey & Sarah Johnson. I have a 7th great-aunt Sarah Johnson, who was baptised in Lavendon on 9 February 1728. She was the daughter of Robert Johnson & Mary.

I have been able to find no other details on Sarah´s parents Robert & Mary.
Samuel Betherey could possibly be related to a John Bithrey who witnessed Catharine Johnson´s marriage to my 5th great-grandfather.
I have previously been helped with this information:- John Bithrey married Susanna Read at Bletsoe on 20 sep 1784 by licence. Witnesses were Richard Sawell/Savill? and William Bithray. The licence transcript dated 18 Sep 1784 says John Bithrey was a miller of Bletsoe age 21+ & Susanna Read was from Bletsoe age 21+; surety was by William Bithray, farmer of Lavenden, Bucks.

Thanks Martin

Buckinghamshire / Lavendon Removal Orders
« on: Monday 16 February 15 19:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am visiting the records office this Saturday.
Other than obtaining copies of two baptisms, marriage banns and marriage.

Robert Johnson Baptised 6 December 1733 Lavendon.
Catharine Johnson Baptised 13 September 1767 Lavendon.
John Cook & Catharine Johnson Marriage Banns 9 March - 23 March 1788 Lavendon.
John Cook & Catharine Johnson Marriage 12 May 1788 Lavendon.

I hope to see the Removal Order from Lavendon for John & Catharine Cook of 1788 and of a William Cook (possibly his son), later in 1819 from Lavendon also.
Both John & Catharine ended up in Bletsoe, Bedfordshire. William either ended up in Bletsoe or Melchbourne (I think).
I payed a visit to BLARS, but have not found a Settlement for any of them.
What other records at Bucks Record office would help me find out their reason for removal and date of removal.
Thanks, Martin

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / John & Catharine Cook, Bletsoe, Bedfordshire
« on: Friday 20 June 14 22:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello, my name is Martin. I am trying to find any information on my 5th grt grandfather, John Cook.
John (b. Abt. 1763), married a lady called Catharine (b. Abt. 1768). John & Catharine had five children, that I can find. All five children were born & christened in Bletsoe, Bedfordshire. The youngest child was John, christened on 19 September 1790, but sadly was buried on 27 November 1796 in Bletsoe.
Taking dates into consideration, they would have probably married around 1788/90.
I can not find John's place/county of birth, Catharine's maiden name, or where & when they married. Both were buried in Bletsoe.
Any help would be appreciated.
Martin
p.s. I have been informed that the 1803 Muster List of Bletsoe lists a John Cook (shopkeeper), aged 42, class 4 with 3 children under 10 (Which would be correct for my William, Richard & Thomas).
William, christened on 16 September 1793, married a lady named Susannah Odell at Milton Ernest, Bedfordshire. He was one of the village bakers, and had a local alley named after him - Cook's Alley in Milton Ernest.
