Durham / Coroners report for Death of Elizabeth Nuttal in 1850
« on: Thursday 11 January 24 10:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I wondered if anyone could help. I recently sent off for a digital copy of my 4 x great grandmother Elizabeth Nuttal nee Simpsons death in Tanfield Durham on the 11th March 1850. Ive attached a copy of it. There is no cause of death just that she was found dead on the road. Would there have been an inquest and coroners report as to how she died. I wondered if anyone had access to the newspaper archives or could help

Kind regards
Susan

Northumberland / Alice D Armstrong born 1915 Northumberland
« on: Thursday 29 June 23 09:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi I had some amazing help which enabled me to get off starters orders for a lady who knew nothing about her family. Im not sure if Im going along the right route with Alice D Armstrong who married Thomas Doney Barker in 1937 in Northumberland. Thomas died in 1939 aged 28 and they had one child together in 1938. Alice then remarries in 1945 to Robert Baker in Northumberland.

I found an Alice D Armstrong born 1915 in Northumberland with mothers maiden name Robinson. The only marriage I have found is a John R Armstrong and an Annie Robinson in 1914 in Northumberland. There are trees on ancestry with this couple but not with Alice. I think what makes it harder is shes above the age for the 1911 census and I dont have access to the 1921 census

Northumberland / parents of Thomas Doney Barker
« on: Saturday 24 June 23 19:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi Im doing a bit of research for a work colleague of my husband. She dosent have much information to go off. Her Grandfather was Thomas Doney Barker who died in 1939 aged 28 years. She believes he may have had Scarlet fever. Thomas married Alice D Armstrong in 1937 and they just had the one child who was her mother who has also passed away. Burials were on findagrave at St Bartholomews, Newbiggin by the Sea.
Going off Thomas Doney Barkers birth he would have been born 24 Jan 1911 according to the 1939 census. Him and his wife and daughter were living at Wallsend. Also who was staying with them was his widowed Mother Jemima Barker who was born in 1882.
My problem is I can not find a birth for Thomas Doney Barker. What I did find was Jemimas grave at St Bartholomews Newbiggin 1st Dec 1972 and on her gravestone it says beloved wife of the late Adjutant Thomas Barker. I cant find a marriage for a Thomas Barker and Jemima but there is a Jemima Doney born 1882 in Cramlington who was living in Bedlington. She disapeared after 1891 census. Im hoping a fresh pair of eyes can pick something up I`m missing.

Hi I was recently sent this photograph by a 2nd cousin. The couple at the front are my great grandparents David Johnson born 1867 and Mary Jane nee Willerton born 1868. The girl back left Elizabeth was born 1899 and girl back right Eleanor born 1900. The girl front left Grace was born 1906 and Lillian born 1909. The gentleman in the middle wearing uniform was my Grandad born 1895. The family were from Northumberland. I wondered if someone could tell me what year this could have been taken and also what uniform my grandad was wearing. I was told he served in both the 1st and 2nd world war but was told he was in the army and the air force in the 2nd. However relatives said it looks like RAF uniform. Any help would be much appreciated

Tyrone / Looking for Birth of Peter McCall 1810 and marriage to Catherine Divine
« on: Wednesday 12 October 22 22:38 BST (UK)  »
Peter McCall was born in Ireland in 1810. I havent been able to find a birth for him.
Sometime between 1846-1851 Peter and his wife settled in Northumberland,
On the 1851 census his wife Catherine was running a boarding house in Morpeth, She had 5 of their children living with her Ann born in 1834, John in 1837, Ellen 1839, Elizabeth 1841 and Catherine in 1844. All of the children were born in Ireland and from later census know they could have been born in Tyrone. On the 1851 census Peter was working in Durham as a cattle jabber,
By 1861 Peter and Catherine were living at Glebe Row Bedlington Northumberland. They had a daughter Margaret in 1852, aon Peter 1853. Twin boys Joseph and James in 1856 who sadly both died aged 8 months old. Ellen their daughter died in 1858 aged 19 and they had another daughter they named Ellen in the same year. From the births of the later children I know the mothers maiden name was Divine but I havent been able to find a marriage for a Peter McCall and Catherine Divine. I would be grateful if one of you good people could help

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA Match which is quite confusing
« on: Monday 26 September 22 09:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi Ive been researching my Rowell ancestors. My 3rd great aunt Mary Ann Rowell was born between 1824 and 1826 in Stannington and sister of my 3rd great grandmother Isabella Rowell. In 1848 Mary Ann has a son called John Rowell. She is unmarried. In 1850 Mary Ann Rowell married Edward Morralee in All Saints Newcastle, Edward is a widow with 3 children John, Edward James and Margaret. Edwards wife Ellen died the same year he married in 1850. In 1851 Edward and Mary Ann have a daughter they named Ellen and then in 1854 they had a son called Robert.
On ancestry I came across a tree of a person that is an ancestor of Margaret Morralee who would be Mary Ann Rowell`s stepdaughter and the thing I am confused with is she is a DNA match, not a lot at 1 percent 9cm across 1 segment  but how would this be?

My parents Sheila nee Johnson and John (Jack) Scott married March 29 1951 at Bothal Northumberland and honeymooned in London. My dad passed away in Sept 1996 and Mam in 2020. Looking through her old photos I came across this one taken on honeymoor at Traflagar Square. It is looking a bit tatty but would love to have it restored and framed if possible. Could someone work their magic?

Northumberland / Inquest for Thomas Robson Death at Netherton Coal Mine 1867
« on: Saturday 09 October 21 12:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi I am looking for information regarding the Inquest of Thomas Robson who died 9th November 1867. His death certificate states he died from a fracture of the skull by being crushed between two coal wagons. I wondered if anyone knew where I might find it as it might help solve a puzzle if the inquest mentions his family.

On the 1871 census some of his children are living at Humford Hill, Bedlington Thomas aged 19, Joseph aged 11, William aged 8, Jane Ann half sister to head aged 5 and Elizabeth aged 2. His eldest son John aged 21 is working on a farm of William Smith in  East Hollywell. Thomas was only 42 when he died in 1867 and his wife died in 1863. The census also mentions a housekeeper Anne Murdie who was my husbands 2 x great grandmother Although the two half sisters Jane Ann and Elizabeth are named Robson their births are both registered as Murdie. Could Thomas be the father but she didnt name him?
It dosent stop there to complicate things even further Ann Murdie (Mordue) marries John Robson, Thomas`s eldest son in 1874. They had 2 sons Robert in 1872 and John Thomas in 1875.
Ann Murdies first child was my husbands great grandfather John Murdie in 1854 in Shoreswood, Northumberland. No father named. He seemed to live with 2 of his uncles when growing up probably because his mother worked on the farms. Ann also had a son called George in Ashington  1864. His birth certificate also shows no fathers name.

Any help would be much appreciated  :D
