Wiltshire / William CARTER of Broadtown b1846
« on: Friday 26 March 10 10:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
Is there anyone out there who is researching the family of William Carter born Broadtown, Wiltshire circa 1846. From the 1911 census I know that he was living in a house of interest to me as an estate Woodman, almost certainly for the Arnold Forster family at Basset Down. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who knows anything more about him or his family.

« on: Tuesday 09 March 10 09:30 GMT (UK)  »
Please do any of you listers live in Edinburgh and/or know the city well? My maternal Gt Grandparents were married at 19 Haddington Place in Edinburgh on July 1st 1863 and I am wondering if that address still exists as it was in those days? Would it be possible to get a photo of it if so?

Hertfordshire / CRANE Family in Hertfordshire
« on: Tuesday 11 August 09 10:00 BST (UK)  »
Please do any of you guys have any knowledge of a Thomas Crane who evidently lived in the St Albans area in 1578. According to the IGI his daughter Sara was baptised at Saint Albans Abbey on 15/6/1578. Thomas Crane was married to a Dorothy ? and they later relocated to Newton Tony in Wiltshire where they bought the Manor before 1586, when his last daughter Eluzai was baptised. Ideally I am hoping to find his origins and evidence of marriage to Dorothy. Any ideas/advice welcomed.

Wiltshire / SPENCER from Beckhampton
« on: Friday 24 July 09 18:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone
I am looking for evidence of Spencer (or Spenser) family members living in Beckhamton, near Avebury in the late 1500s. As I understand it Beckhampton is in the Parish of Avebury, does anyone know if their PRs go back that far? Any comments/advice welcomed.

« on: Tuesday 30 June 09 08:33 BST (UK)  »
Please does anyone have access to Broad Hinton PRs and could look up for me the marriage of Thomas Neate to Elizabeth Hughes, which according to the IGI took place on 1/2/1787? What I am hoping to find is where Thomas Neate came from and even better who his father was? Any help much appreciated.

Oxfordshire / Oxfordshire Place Names in 1658
« on: Monday 23 June 08 17:37 BST (UK)  »
I am reading a deed dated 1658 where two place names in Oxforshire are hand written, neither of which I can identify today. The two names look like Long Clerke and Rordley.
Does anyone out there have any clues as to the identity of these places, or can you advise where I might search to identify them?

London and Middlesex / Andrew Templeton Marriage circa 1888
« on: Thursday 03 April 08 10:58 BST (UK)  »
Please does anyone have any ideas as to how to identify a marriage between Andrew Templeton and Kate Johnson probably in the Paddington area during the period 1886 to 1889. I have tried Free BMD the GRO records without success. The only defenite facts I have to go on is a birth certificate for their son James born 7/5/1889 when they were living at 22 Warlock Rd Paddington District and the 1891 census, by which time they were living at 19 Kennet Road, again Paddington District, when Kate gives her place of birth as Paddington. At this time they were both aged 25.
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

Berkshire / Lydia Garner, Ashbury 1871
« on: Friday 30 November 07 15:15 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone out there shed any light on the marriage of Lydia Garner to Sydney Bowkett sometime between 1871 and 1881? In 1871 Lydia, aged 15 is living with her father Joseph who is Grocer & Postmaster at Ashbury, Berks. RG10/1257Folio 70 Page 5. By 1881 she is "married" to Sidney Bowkett who is aged 39 from Ledbury, Hereforshire, RG 11/1277 Folio 50 Page 10, but there is no evidence of the marriage on Free BMD, or in the GRO BMDs. Does anyone have access to Ashbury PR, or any other ideas?
Lydia's marriage was fairly shortlived because Sidney died Dec Q 1883 and she married again to Thomas Walker (the family I am interested in) on Sep 16th 1884, but that was even more shortlived because she died Jun Q 1885.
Any help much appreciated

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Thomas Tuck 1871 Census- Brinkworth
« on: Tuesday 10 April 07 16:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Does anyone out there have any interest in the TUCK family from the area Wootton Bassett, Purton, Brinkworth. I am in particular trying to go back further with Thomas TUCK who in the 1871 census RG10/1889/Folio127Page 21 is transcribed as Thomas SACK. That particlar page of the census is torn so that his place of birth is not certain, but appears to be Purton and his age appears to be 51. His occupation appears to be Mason, but this seems most unlikely to me. He does not appear in the next census but appears to have died SepQ1979 and his children are in the Brokenborough Workhouse in 1881 with no sign of their mother Sarah who I believe was his second wife.
Has anyone been able to identify him in earlier census returns? Any help/advice appreciated.
