Trying to find what happened to a brother and half brother of my great grandfather, both born in Johnstone.

John McKechnie born c1817, Ireland, died 4 February 1861, Abbey Poor House, Paisley

married to

Rose Stewart born c1825, Ireland, died 22 October 1875, Johnstone

They had a family of three......

John McKechnie (1855 – 1907) (my Great Grandfather)

Sarah McKechnie (1857 – 1925)

Alexander McKechnie (1860 – ?)

and a half brother

Bernard Gillan McKechnie or Stewart (1863 - ?)

Rose McKechnie is recorded in the 1861 Census as a Lodging House Keeper then in the 1871 Census as a Widow and with a Lodger named John Gillan, aged 35, a Labourer from Ireland.

I have details of all except Alexander and Bernard after the 1871 Census...anyone any ideas?

Dunbartonshire / Thomas Carmichael born 15 May 1831, New Kilpatrick
« on: Monday 08 January 18 11:43 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to trace the death of my great great grandfather Thomas Carmichael born 15 May 1831 at New Kilpatrick, Scotland. Thomas had served in the Fusilier Guards, Windsor from July 1849 to August 1852, Army Number 3881. He was involved in the Crimean War 1855/56 and in the American Civil War with the US (2nd) Cavalry, Maryland. Last known contact was in May 1866 in the Scots Fusiliers, then on 25 July 1869 as a patient in the Military Hospital, Vauxhall Road, London.

Thomas had a brother Hugh Carmichael who died on 11 January 1918 at Chapelton Cottage in Bearsden, his occupation was recorded as an Inspector of the Poor, anyone heard of that job?

I am looking for a death of James McLelland. James was born in Ireland in c1853, married Margaret Cathcart Holmes on 06/12/1880 at the Middle Free Manse in Coatbridge. They had three children, , Margaret McLelland b.1880 in Coatbridge, Elizabeth McLelland b.1882 in Coatbridge, John Samuel McLelland b.1885 in Blantyre. On 16/05/1890 Margaret Cathcart McLelland then marries a John McIntosh, she is recorded as a widow of James McLelland - Shoemaker, Journeyman.

I can find no death of a James McLelland between 1884 and 1890 in Scotland, any help would be appreciated.

Cavan / Robert Connelly (b.1847) and Catherine Morrow (b.1850)
« on: Saturday 30 December 17 16:31 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to trace my Great Grandparents births. Robert’s father was a farmer named Henry Connelly (b. c1825) who had a farm in Cootehill....or was the name of the farm Cootehill? Henry married Jane Reynolds. Catherine Morrow’s mother was Margaret McGuire and her father John Morrow, a Soap Worker. Family story has it they both ran away to get married in Scotland, Paisley in 1874. Any information would be most appreciated.
