The Common Room / Shadwell Middlesex - Opinion or advice
« on: Wednesday 01 February 23 06:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

Being in Australia I have no concept of registration districts and locations.

Having discovered a baptism in July 1841 at St Paul's, Shadwell, Middlesex with a birth with which may match it which was registered 1841/SQ City of London Union.

The church was traditionally known as the Church of Sea Captains which the father of the child was but before getting to excited I wanted to get some opinions on the likelihood of this district covering Shadwell (Tower Hamlets). Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All
I have a mariner Thomas Huntley Brown who on the 10 March 1841 appears in the Perry's Bankrupt Gazette of the 13 where it shows being from Hull a mariner under the column "Insolvent Estates vested in Assignee" then in The London Gazette 12 March page 692 under the heading "The Court for Relief of Insolvent Debtors" he is noted as in goal and late of the Trinidad.

The Trinidad being a sailing ship which I assume he may have been crew etc.
What I am seeking is any suggestions where I might establish who would have been appointed as the liquidator and what sentence he would have served in goal it may have been short as he appeared in the 1841 census.

A thumbnail process once a person declared themself insolvent would also help.

Thanks in advance

Further info London Gazette 8 June 1841 pg 1490 shows him living in Middlesex and under the column noted following prisoners whose estates and effects have been vested in the provisional Assignee by order of the court having filed their schedule before the commissioner,. Could this information be located and any suggestion where the records might be?

Australia / Legal Mystery
« on: Tuesday 10 January 23 06:48 GMT (UK)  »
Question for any legal eagle who might give me a clue.

I have been told that a Petition for Death was filed in Queensland in 1901 with a reference #8239 under the name of Patrick James Gallacher.
There has been several spelling variations which is acceptable.
I have inquired in several places, Archives, Libraries, Societies and Solicitors with no success.

My questions
Anyone heard of a Petition for Death?
What was its purpose?

Any suggestions welcomed

Buckinghamshire / Railway travel 1857
« on: Thursday 10 February 22 06:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi is there anyone out there who can offer information about rail travel in 1857 from Buckingham to Liverpool in 1857 it does not have to be exact schedules in general
frequency, cost and route.

Alternatively suggested web site which may contain the information

My stokes family traveled in January from Liverpool to Sydney, Australia and I would expect they would have got to Liverpool by rail.

Any clues appreciated

« on: Wednesday 15 January 20 03:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everybody
It is Syd from down under I am floundering locating a woman Mary Ann Warhurst born in Glossop 1839 she has had a combination of surnames (Hayes, Warhurst and Broadbent) which is causing me some grief.
What I have found is a Mary Ann b 1838/DQ Glossop V19 P 411
1841C HO107/185/57 Glossop Workhouse Mary Ann (2) also there is Harriett (27)
1846/JQ Hayfield V 19 P 508 a Harriett Warhurst m Thomas Rhodes
1851C HO107/2239/139 Harriett Rhodes a lodger with her daug Mary Ann Warhurst no sign of Thomas Rhodes
1859/MQ Hayfield V7b P 809 Mary Ann Warhurst m George Broadbent
1861C RG9/2550/27 George and Mary Ann Broadbent Hayfield Robinson Houses.
Mary Ann arrives in Moreton Bay Aust before 1868 wher she m William Edward Parrott she dies there in 1881 where her parents are shown as Harriett Wallis and Walker Hayes, neither of who I can find perhaps the informant did not know?
My questions from the evidence does this look correct?
Were Robinsons Houses connected with the cotton mills/
Any suggestions

Thanks in advance
Syd

Having pinpointed the Warhurst and Broadbent just leaves Hayes

The Common Room / Will and Death date variations
« on: Friday 11 May 18 08:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
Here is my problem I have located a marriage records of a Henry Rider in Essex dated 7 November 1745 (Copy held)
I have a copy of his Will signed and dated 14 May 1746 (copy held) it was proven after submission by his executor (wife) 15 July 1746 (Copy held)
The burial record on the National Burial Index (NBI) date is 9 March 1746 (Copy held)
The Parish Record date is 9 March 1745 (Copy held)
I accept the NBI could be a transcription error but I am in a quandary over the variation on the Will date as it is after his death.
Does any one have any ideas on possible causes or variation in dates could it be due to changes in calendars?
Any suggestions on solving problem appreciated
