Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Church records look-up please
« on: Monday 26 July 10 09:35 BST (UK)  »

Is anyone going to the Borthwick Institute at the University please.

If so, would it be possible to ask for a look-up relating to St Cuthberts church (I think it's Hungate).

The person I am seeking is Henry Freeman who was a scripture reader, but possibly also a church warden.

Any help and information on Henry would be very gratefully received.  Many thanks to all - good luck in searching.

Europe / HELP!!!!!!!!!
« on: Tuesday 20 July 10 15:52 BST (UK)  »

As far as the Ancestry site is concerned, my relation is a European Jew.

Can anyone please tell me just how I go about trying to find his birth and possibly marriage etc.

I have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever about him until he appeared in York in 1823 (when he was 32 years old).

Also, does anyone know how reliable the Ancestry records are ..... or am I barking up a very large tree here!

Many thanks

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Look-up Please
« on: Sunday 18 July 10 18:34 BST (UK)  »
If anyone is going to the Birmingham Archives, could I please ask for a parish records look-up.

I would like to find a baptism for Thomas Freeman (born approx 1836), Henry Freeman (born approx 1838).  The father is Henry Freeman - the mother MAY be Mary but not altogether sure.

Also I would like to find a marriage of any Henry Freeman between 1830 and 1936. If it helps, he was born around 1791 and was a Hatter by trade.

Good luck to everyone searching.   ;)

The Common Room / Is Freeman Jewish??
« on: Tuesday 13 January 09 16:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello .... I wonder whether anyone may have some good advice for me to follow??

I have only just found out (after a long time) that my ancestor was European Jewish.  Where do I go from here?

He was apparently born in Crawley - I suppose then the possibility is that his parents were from Europe somewhere ... but where!!!

No birth or marriage exists for him - is this because his records might be held in a synagogue?  I strongly suspect (because of his age) that he had 2 marriages - possibly the first one was to a Jewish lady - the first 3 children are not registered, but the next 4 are registered in York where he appears to be married (possibly to a second wife)!

What a mess .... how do I manage to make any progress from here??

ANY HELP AT ALL WOULD BE INVALUABLE.

Many thanks to all

Warwickshire / Parish Registers Please??
« on: Friday 08 August 08 14:38 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone going to the Birmingham Records Office please.

I would like to try and locate a baptism in the parish records for 3 children born in Birmingham - Thomas Freeman (born/bapt.about 1836), Henry Freeman (born/bapt. about 1838) and Eliza Freeman (born/bapt. about 1840). There is no trace of Eliza or Henry in the BMD records.

Any help would be wonderful.  Many thanks to all

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Apprenticeship Indentures
« on: Thursday 07 August 08 21:04 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I wonder whether anyone might be going to the Public Records Office in Kew?

If so, would it be possible for someone to take a look at the apprenticeship indentures between 1803 and 1810 for me please.  A big job to ask I know, but I would be extremely grateful.

I am looking for my gt. grandafther x 3 who was a Hatter, so I expect he will have been an apprentice during this time.  I know very little about him except that his name was Henry Freeman and supposedly born in 1791 in Crawley, Sussex.

The apprenticeship could have been completed in Crawley, Birmmingham or York.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks to all.

Sussex / The Freeman Family
« on: Thursday 31 July 08 18:20 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone able to help me with this one please.  I have been stuck on it for a couple of years now, so any help would be just MAGIC!!!

I think I need someone to look-up the Chichester parish records please.

My query is for Henry Freeman - born (supposedly) 1791 in Crawley, but possibly registered in Chichester.  I have absolutely no other information about his parents or siblings.

If anyone is able to help me I would be eternally grateful.

Many thanks to all.     :-\
