Antrim / William Spence.Sarah McKane.c1844 marriage Ahoghill.Tullaghgarley,Moylarg.lookup
« on: Wednesday 09 February 22 05:28 GMT (UK)  »
Good evening.
I have the following records using actual BMD's, however, i wonder if someone can find a marriage for William Spence (his father David SPENCE) to Sarah McKane (diff spellings obviously) circa 1840 possibly Moylarg/Tullaghgarley. Also a death of Sarah SPENCE 1858-1861.This is where l am stuck going back.

Fortunately William Spence bn c1813 was a Watchmaker/Farmer/Weaver, depending on which of his child's marriage or death. The Watchmaker profession has enabled me to zero in on more definite matches. What steered me to the Moylarg/Ahoghill/Tullaghgarley area was where one of the sons decided to marry in Killymurris and stated his townland as Tullaghgarley, yet was living Port Glasgow Scotland. All of my Port Glasgow Spence's late 1880's stated born Ireland on census'.

This is what l have so far....
Parents William Spence and Sarah McKane
Son William SPENCE bn c1845 Ireland according to Scotland census'. His marriage certificate 1Jan1867 age 22 to Mary Jane BAMER in Port Glasgow Scotland.  Parents to SPENCE, William SPENCE clock and watchmaker, Sarah KING. William1845 died 1920 Port Glasgow Scotland in an accident .His death certificate states father William, as a Jeweller and mother Sarah MCKEAN.

Son Thomas SPENCE bn c1852 Ireland according to Scotland census'. His marriage certificate 14April1873 age 21 to Jane NEWTON in Renfrew Scotland. Parents to SPENCE, William, watchmaker and Sally McKING. Living Port Glasgow.

Son Robert SPENCE bn c1854 Ireland according to Scotland census'. He lived with his brother in 1881 Port Glasgow prior to marriage. His marriage certificate Killymurris 1st Presbyterian Ballymena, 20Jun1884 his age 'Full' to  Agnes RUSSELL. His father William SPENCE ,farmer. Roberts townland states Tullaghgarley. His death age 82 in 1936 Port Glasgow states father William SPENCE a Watchmaker and mother Sarah MCKEAN.

Son Joseph SPENCE bn c1858 Ireland. His marriage certificate 16Sept1879 age 22 to Elizabeth CORMIE in South Shields Durham England. Parent to SPENCE, William Spence, Watchmaker.
Joseph is my lineage. He moved to Port Glasgow Scotland 1880. CORMIE died and he married to a widow TOSH, ms GALBRAITH in 1889 Port Glasgow. Marriage certificate states father Watchmaker and mother Sarah McKean.
Joseph died 1928 age 70 Port Glasgow Scotland. Death cert. states father a Watchmaker and mother Sarah McKean.

My latest find on the William SPENCE bn c1814 is a marriage, his second, on 25Oct1861 to Mary Ann LINN, he of Moylarg Ahoghill, watchmaker, widower, age 47. LINN of Tullygrawley Ahoghill age 23!!! His father David SPENCE, a farmer. Married in the Register Office of Ballymena.
She died suddenly September 1865 per the Ballymena Observer 9Sept1865.

He is not done yet. Third marriage, William SPENCE age 52 bn1815 widower, a weaver, to Jane MEEK,widow (ms WORKMAN) age 37. Married 13March1867 Register Office Ballymena. He of Moylarg, Ahoghill, father David SPENCE,farmer. Jane of Drumrankin Ahoghill. His son Samuel born 1867 school records show father a watchmaker from Moylarg.
His death certificate 29Feb1888 age 76 bn1812 Watchmaker of Tullygrawley. His wife Jane, informant.

I would like to find Williams marriage to Sarah MCKEAN and her death circa 1858-1861 if anyone can help.
All these records show Ahoghill, Tullaghgarley and Moylarg area.

I did go on a big trail that didn't look like my line, following the names SPENCE/BOAL-Ireland. SPENCE/CARSON-Ireland. SPENCE/LOCKE-Ireland.Canada. circa 1860 and on. These had the McKANE names all around the same townland.
The CARSON line had a gravemarker showing Sarah SPENCE but her birth age was 1826. Also included the names BOAL and LOVE. This Sarah's father was William SPENCE, farmer.

Thank you in advance
Kira

Hello Listers

I have just received the death certificate of my ancestor William Hughes born c1811 and died 17 January 1849 age 38.  The address stated at his death is 3 Sands Street Liverpool.

His family, wife Mary Ann Hughes, widow, along with her children Elizabeth ( my GGGrandmother) , Margaret, Thomas, Ann and Mary Ann's parents the Northcotts all live at 71 Rathbone Street Mount Pleasant in the 1851 census , just around the corner from Sands Street.
William and Mary Ann's last child Ann was born March 1849 and at her baptism, the address is 71 Rathbone Street Liverpool.

At a guess, l am presuming that they lived at the back of this house which bordered Sands Street. William's Mother in Law , Elizabeth Northcott was 'present at death'.

I have tried looking for the 1851 census for this address, 3 Sands Street,  through familysearch with no results. Could someone please help me on this issue.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to look this up.

My ancestor Mary Ann Tribbett (nee Cox) is in the Alderbury Union Workhouse Wiltshire in the 1891 census as an Inmate, age 64. She died in 1894. She was removed from the Workhouse around 1893 when a Will surfaced and Mary Ann Tribbett was to benefit .

Mary's son in law Albert Burden, husband of Marys daughter also named Mary Ann, was involved in the move.

A relative contact was able to get the Guardian Minutes dated  18 August 1893, 1 Sep 1893, 15 Sep 1893, 29 Sep 1893 and 13 Oct 1893. The contact emailed me a transcript of the original when she visited the Wiltshire and Swindon Archives, and was to mail me the original. However, a family crisis and a big move resulted in the loss of the originals.

Is there some kind soul that lives near the library, able to email me the originals?

Mary Ann Tribbett was born 1828 Exeter Devon and married William Tribbett in 1847 Exeter. The family moved to West Harnham Wiltshire around 1853 and had my Grt Grandmother Emma Harriett Tribbett the next year. William Tribbett died  1886 and according to the death certificate of Mary Ann Tribbett senior, died of hemiplegia 8 years (paralyzed one side of body usually caused by stroke) So she must have had a stroke shortly after her husbands death. Emma married John Collins in 1885 and their daughter, my Grandmother Bessie Gertrude Collins was born 1894 Laverstock Wiltshire. I never knew Bessie as she died tragically during surgery in 1947.

Kind regards
Kira

Sussex Lookup Requests / Spencer name Brighton Sx (Deighton/Woodward)
« on: Thursday 15 September 11 04:28 BST (UK)  »
Is someone able to look up marriage or familiar with this family:George Spencer bn 1863  Brighton , and Jane Woodward (ms Deighton) bn 1869 Brighton married Sep quarter 1928 Brighton.Possible parents to this couple  George Spencer/Thomas Deighton.
Or does someone know or able to look up birth/baptism of William Spencer born 15 August 1910 Brighton to possible mother Deighton or Woodward.

I am wanting to tie this altogether if possible.
1911 Census 4 Dorset St Brighton. George Spencer age 48 bn1863/Jane 42, Harriett 7, Bert 5, Thomas 3, and William 8 months all bn Brighton. Jane married 13 years 4 children born and living. This married 13 years, 4 children does not jive with my findings.

1901 Census 51 William St Brighton. Jane Woodward married 32 with children Susan 8, George 7, and Annie 6 all born London. Ancestry has their baptisms in 1895 Greenwich to father Alfred Woodward. Ancestry has marriage of Jane Deighton to ALBERT Woodward June 1891. Her father Thomas Deighton. 1901 Census 36 Greenwich Road Greenwich has Albert Woodward married bus driver living with Harriett Deighton a widow who is a housekeeper to the Grant family.
This looks like Jane moved back to Brighton alone with her children and left husband and her Mum in Greenwich. By 1911 she is living with George Spencer has 3 children and then marries him in 1928.

I have looked at other census going back and it all ties together.   I just need to get these two pieces of information for it all to make sense.

Kind regards
Kira

Flintshire / Holywell 1841 birth look up
« on: Sunday 19 November 06 20:42 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone able to look up a birth for me?
Ann Jones born 1841 Holywell Flint to father Owen Jones, a labourer.
In March 1866 she married Thomas Lloyd, in Birkenhead, and was age 25.
All census's have her born 1841 apart from 1871 that looks like age 29.(born 1842). Otherwise like other fellow genealogists that have common names like this one, l will have to start buying birth certificates!!
Kind regards
Kira in a very warm sunny Calgary Canada (but not for long)
