Scotland / Alexander Ross JACK
« on: Wednesday 29 April 15 07:35 BST (UK)  »
A R Jack was b 21 Dec 1883, birth reg at Lanark Lanarkshire. I have the Certificate, he was
illegitimate mother's name Maggie Jack who registered the birth.

1891 census finds him with his Grandmother Margaret Jack and Uncle Lewis Jack, as a scholar 7 yrs at 12 Russell Place Anderston. Birthplace given as Lanark Lanarkshire.

1901 census is not obvious, I have found an Alexander Jack 16 yrs (age is out) at Dunoon Convalescent Sea Side Homes Manse Road Dunoon App blacksmith as a patient with 57 others. However, his birthplace is given as Govan Lanarkshire, so perhaps it's not him.

I can't find a marriage or death for him, in spite of taking shares out in scotlandspeople.

I have searched the CWGC database for him but can't see him.

I really need some more eyes to look for him, if someone could help I would be grateful :D

Cheers

Joy
Edit to add, Maggie Jack died in 1923 and the death was registered by her sister Eliza Jack McVicar,
so perhaps he wasn't around :-\

Aberdeenshire / Lewis Jack 1851 census
« on: Tuesday 31 March 15 22:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I would appreciate some help in finding Lewis JACK in the 1851 census, he would be approximately
24 yrs and born Avoch Ross & Cromarty.
He married Margaret FRASER in 1849 in Forres/Speymouth Moray. He was a blacksmith.
In 1851 census Margaret with daughter Margaret 23mths is in Cullen Banff but no Lewis.
1861 census all the family is in Kintore Aberdeen and in 1871 all the family is in Glasgow.
He may not be in the county of Aberdeen, he could be anywhere and I've widened my search but still can't find him.
To make things difficult there are lots of Lewis JACKS and most of them born in Avoch.

Thanks

Trove looking for information and usually give up :( Do all the efficient researchers use the

advanced search option or what :-\ Should I put the query in quotation marks or not :-\

Trove is a great resource and I'm not getting the best out it or using my time productively :(

Australia / William BOOTH
« on: Tuesday 21 October 14 08:48 BST (UK)  »
I am helping an elderly gentleman with his family history but have hit snags. He has some later
certificates but is missing the marriage certificate for his 2xG Grandparents William BOOTH and
Elizabeth RYE. He told me that they were married 20 Jul 1868 possibly at Somerton Vic, apparently his G/Grandfather wrote the date down but didn't note anything else.

I checked the online index and the date and names check out. However, he can't buy the certificate so as I know some of you have private resources that include parents names I was hoping that someone could tell me William's parents names and where he came from.

Also, could someone please find his arrival into Australia, I suspect Victoria.

Thanks

Joy
PS He doesn't need Elizabeth's info apparently.

Australia / McCarthy family
« on: Tuesday 15 July 14 00:00 BST (UK)  »
John McCarthy/Macarthy etc arrived in Sydney 16 Oct 1838 aboard the Calcutta.
The passenger list gives his age as 40yrs, wife 30yrs, 1 male over 14 and 2 girls under14.
His religion was protestant but his future employment details were 'unknown'.

How can I find out where they went after arriving ???
