Anyone connected to this couple? Augusta I believe was born in Germany in 1852( father Leopold Lutsky or similar spelling) and thereafter moved to Limerick, Ireland. She married there in 1872 to John Cummins and had children Adina Mary Cummins 1872 and Francis Cummins 1874. The family soon then moved to South Africa and were in Kingwilliamstown, Eastern Cape where I believe John Cummins died before 1879. In 1879 Augusta married one Michael Maloney, born about 1840 (Ireland?) and a sadler by trade. He died 1893 and she in 1937 and both interred in Main Cemetery, Kingwilliamstown. Any information or further direction appreciated.

Anyone have knowledge of or information about a John Neeson, probably born Antrim about 1850, who in September 1917 made an application to Public Records Office Ireland regarding the 1841 and 1851 Census Returns. This may have been in connection with a pension or similar and in absence of a birth certificate. He stated his parents to be Richard Neeson and Catherine nee Doogan.

The Common Room / What became of Isabella Dempsey nee Joy
« on: Sunday 31 May 15 19:54 BST (UK)  »
Isabella Joy was born County Antrim, Ireland in 1836 - daughter of James Joy, a labourer and Elizabeth (nee Hay or Kay?). In December 1855 she was a factory hand at Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, Scotland when she married there to John Dempsey an Antrim born ironstone/coal miner. They were later resident at Truffhill, Waterside by Dalmellington, Ayrshire until December 1861 when John Dempsey suddenly died. No children were listed with them on 1861 census. I can find no trace of Isabella after becoming a widow. Did she remarry elsewhere? Did she return to Ireland? Did she emigrate to USA or Australia where some Dempsey relatives had gone? Any Joy researcher have knowledge of her?

Down / Isabella Bell possibly born 24 December 1844 at Dromara, County Down
« on: Monday 18 May 15 16:20 BST (UK)  »
My great grandmother was one Isabella Bell born Ireland about 1844 and the daughter of Elizabeth Kay (father - Joseph Kay and mother - Mary Mills). At her marriage in Ayr, Scotland in 1864 to John Collins Isabella's father is recorded as Robert Bell a Jeweller (presumably still alive then as he was not described as deceased). Robert Bell has never featured with the family after they moved over to Ayr. Elizabeth used the surname Kay and is never recorded as a widow?. I have seen computer mentions of a Robert Bell, born abt 1818 (at Artana, Dromara) having married at Dromara about 1843 to Mrs Elizabeth Bell (nee Kay?). Also a Presbyterian Church record seems to exist re the birth of an Isabella Bell at Dromara, Down on 24 December 1844 and the parents are identified as Robert Bell and Elizabeth (nee Kay?). Is this just coincidence? I see that a  Joseph Bell was still farming at Artana in 1910 Towns Directory. A Robert and Margaret Bell had also been at Artana till their deaths in 1816 and 1827. Anyone have connections or information to/of any of the persons or families mentioned. Can someone solve my mystery?

Dublin / David Murphy born Limerick abt 1832 and died dublin 1927
« on: Sunday 28 September 14 20:46 BST (UK)  »
Having some trouble with common surname of Murphy. Hoping to learn more about David Murphy born Limerick about 1832. At Limerick in 1865 he married Elizabeth Curry and had children - Patrick in Limerick 1867, David Francis in 1869 in Dublin, Francis Xavier in 1870 in Dublin and Mary Catherine in 1872 at Dublin(married John Tarrant of Sligo) . David was an Accountant and may also have taught mathematics at an Irish college. He seems to have been an accomplished player of the flute! Elizabeth nee Curry died prior to 1901 and about 1906 David Murphy married for second time to Catherine ? who on 1911 census claimed to be born about 1859 at Arklow, County Wicklow. Her name could be Molloy or similar and a daughter by previous marriage may have had a newsagent/tobacconist shop in Dublin and a son (Jack?) was with Diplomatic Service. In 1901 David Murphy was resident at 78 Ballybough Road, Mountjoy, Dublin and in 1911 was resident at 3 Shamrock Avenue, Rathmines & Rathgar West, Dublin. Could he be the David Murphy who died Dublin 1927 (third quarter) aged 98 years and subject to Dublin South death record - Vol 2 Page 285 Film 101737). Any help much appreciated.

« on: Thursday 25 September 14 20:51 BST (UK)  »
Anyone have knowledge of or is connected to James Byres (or similar spelling) b Kirkcolm abt 1766 and his wife Sarah nee Hannah or Hannay. They had children Agnes b 1792, Janet b 1797 and George b 1798 - all at Kirkcolm. Suspect that George Byres became a gardener to trade and is person who died at Craigie, Ayrshire in 1862. Was there another sibling ie Helen Byres born late 1790's or early 1800's?. Did the entire family move from Kirkcolm to Ayrshire?
