Oxfordshire / Plough Inn, Hempton
« on: Monday 27 June 11 10:08 BST (UK)  »
Some years ago there was a conversation between Joyce Hoad and RJEmpson on RootsWeb about the Plough Inn in Hempton, Deddington  -  now archived.
See:

My great-grandfather, John Thomas Butler, was "innkeeper" at the Plough Inn in Hempton, from an unknown point between 1895 and 1900,  until his death in 1902.
I wonder if anyone knows if there are any photos of the Plough in existence, from that period or earlier?  Or any newspaper items about it?  He committed suicide, so that may have been considered newsworthy.

Oxfordshire / Joseph Thomas Holtom
« on: Friday 18 February 11 16:50 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find a record of the death of Joseph Thomas Holtom, born 18/03/1866, in Oxfordshire. He married Mary Stanley on 18/05/1887 in Bodicote, Oxfordshire.
At some point between 1891 and 1901, they moved with their 2 children (or possibly only his wife and children moved) to Edinburgh.  In the 1901 Scottish Census, his wife and children are listed as being in Edinburgh, but in both the 1901 & 1911 Censuses Joseph is in Swalcliffe, Oxfordshire with his mother Caroline Manning (she remarried after Joseph's father died).  In 1901 Joseph is listed as Holtom, in 1911 as Holborn.
When his wife died in Edinburgh on 05/01/1926, Joseph is not listed as deceased, but when his son died in Edinburgh on 14/04/1926, he is listed as deceased, so unless there's a mistake on one of the death certificates, he died between those two dates in 1926.
However, I can find no record of his death on FreeBMD, Ancestry.co.uk, or Scotland's People.  I've tried various possible mis-spellings of Holtom.

Can anyone help, please?
