Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1861 Census - GRAVES/GREAVES
« on: Monday 24 July 17 20:47 BST (UK)  »
Have been struggling for 5 years to locate Elizabeth and Edward Graves/Greaves on 1861 census.

Edward married Elizabeth Horsfall Crowther on 8 Feb 1861, so I would have presumed they would be living together on the 1861 census in Liverpool or a part of Lancashire, as they were married in Liverpool.

Elizabeth was born 1839 in Birkenhead
Edward was born between 1811-1831 possibly Chichester. His birth year seems to variate.

There's an Edward Greaves b.1808 living in Liverpool on the 1861 census but he's a widower and seems to die in around 1868. Locating the 1861 census would really help me break down the brick wall of Edward's mysterious birth !

Many Thanks for any help :)

Worcestershire / Phillis Nock 1819
« on: Monday 02 January 17 16:12 GMT (UK)  »
I had traced back my Nock ancestors well into the 1650s, starting from Phillis Nock, born in approx 1819, who married James Davies in Old Swinford, Worcester, in 1840. I had assumed that she was the Phillis Nock christened in 1821 to Aaron and Lucy Nock, and had traced Aaron's forebears. However, I could not find out what happened to Aaron and Lucy after the 1820s. My fruitless researching came to a head yesterday, when I found Aaron and Lucy Nock in Durham, having more children. Furthermore, after Lucy died, the key to knowing this was the same family was Aaron's second marriage. His father on this marriage transcription was 'Noble'; so I knew I had the correct man, and on censuses, he was born in Worcestershire. However, I would never have found this prior, as it was recorded under 'Knox'.
To my dismay, I found a record for a Phillis Knox, father Aaron Knox, marrying in Durham, in 1839- so my Phillis, and all of her Nock ancestors, are completely wrong! I had a sorry night deleting them all off  of my tree, after a year of work on them. I guess my story shows the importance of getting certificates to back up your data- Phillis' marriage certificate would be a good start. Does anyone else have a similar story? I am glad I have found out the truth, but I do not know where to go next regarding Phillis, as the only other Phillis was born in 1825, not 1819 as she is recorded on the censuses. I have some thinking to do!

United States of America / Death Record Missing
« on: Saturday 10 September 16 17:16 BST (UK)  »
I'm searching for the death of Mary Lawrie in 1901 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
I know that her husband, James Lawrie, died there in 1904.
Mary was born approximately in March 1830. While there is a death record for James, and most of her children, I cannot find anything for her, apart from her gravestone in a burial site for 'mother Lawrie' who died in 1901, alongside her husband.
If anyone could find her death, as I have drawn up many blanks, I would be so grateful! I'm really hoping this will have her parent's names on the death certificate- as this would help me solve a two year old brick wall!

Westmeath / Missing baptism Anne Lennon- help please
« on: Saturday 28 May 16 19:40 BST (UK)  »
Anne, Ann or Anna Maria Lennon was born between 1827-1831 in Athlone, Westmeath.

Her marriage in 1845 in Cork states her father as Thomas Lennon, but with no occupation. This states her as a minor.

Her first child was then born, according to military and census records, a year later in 1846 in Ballykeeran, just a few miles from Athlone. I can't find this child's baptism either- Henry William Raymond junior.

I've found many tithe records stating a Thomas Lennon in the 1820s around Athlone and the various parishes in it as well as other Lennons.

A Landon Thomas Lennon is found in 1842 in Cheshire, England. He was residing in Ballykeeran at the time of his marriage, and his father was also a Thomas Lennon. (a gentleman) Considering the name Landon is passed through generations of Anna's children, I'm sure they're siblings or at least cousins, and a Landon Lennon is a name cropping up in Westmeath. He's born between 1812-1818 in Athlone too.

I've searched through the available records of Athlone on the Irish registers, and searched on all the main sites, but I can't find any record of Anna's baptism. Does anyone have any suggestions or can find Anne? Anything would be appreciated.

Hi, can someone please help me transcribe this marriage record? I need to know whether the date is 22/29, what the residence place is, and especially the bride's father's name. At first I thought Thomas, but I really don't know what else it could be, unless it's some kind of Irish name? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as finding the parents of these elusive ancestors is needed!

Lancashire / Help with parents of Ann VEASEY, please
« on: Monday 04 May 15 20:03 BST (UK)  »
Ann Veasey married William Heap 21 Sep 1857 Walton on the Hill. Parents John Veasey, Joiner, and Samuel Heap, labourer. All attempts to trace these two with these father's names and details from the census have failed. They were described as minors, so I'm wondering whether they didn't have their parents consent, and made this up.

Ann was supposedly born around 1837-1839 in either Liverpool or Ireland, depending on which census you look at. The only Ann Veasey born around this time was not born to a John- she was seemingly born to a James.

There is an Ann on the 1841 and 1851 censuses born around the right time and right place. 1841 living presumably with parents James and Margaret, and 1851 living with her aunt and uncle William and Mary Daley. The Daleys in 1851 were living in Dale Street, the same place in 1841 where the Veaseys lived. in 1861, the Daleys had another Veasey neice living with them.

I've mostly reached a brick wall. I don't know how the Daleys are related exactly, whether this is the right Ann, and whether the Ann Veasey born 1839 in Strokestown, Roscommon to a Veasey and Margaret Camphill/Campbell (the marriage of Margaret shows him being James/Jacobum.) is my ancestor Ann.

The only evidence for this being Ann is that on one of her children's Catholic Liverpool Baptisms, the godparents' surnames look like Daley. (or Darly.) William and maybe Cath? Daley/Darly.  Ann and William baptised their first half of children Catholic,(mother's maiden name Veasey (or variations of it), so definitely them!)  and then the second half Protestant (confusing!)

If anyone could help me, I would be so grateful. Also, on another of her children's baptisms, the godparents are an Anthony and Maria Vasey, but I can't establish their relationship to Ann.

Cork / MARRIAGE-1845-CORK
« on: Sunday 22 March 15 15:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone!

Please could someone tell me how to obtain the marriage certificate of Henry Raymond and Anna Lennon 1845 in Cork? (I'm in England.) I've tried the Irish GRO website, but it won't let me. I've also been to the National Archives and the London Family History Centre there to see if I can view it on a parish register, but they didn't have the microfilm or fiche there either for me to see. I really need this marriage certificate, as I am having problems tracing their parents. (Henry is from England, there are many Anna Lennon's born in the same place and time, so the certificate is needed to verify which one she is.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  :)

Wiltshire / Larret Casy and Ichabod Wells - help with birth records please
« on: Wednesday 24 December 14 16:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!

I was wondering if anybody could help me. I have come across two brick walls in my family in Wiltshire.

The first one is Larret Casy, married Charles Wright 1691 and d 1721under Lany Wright both in Rodbourne Cheney.
The second is Ichabod Wells married John Preddy/Pridy 1693 in Lydiard Tregoze. No death found.

Both women's husbands had been married before (although I can't find the marriages) so they both have a birth date of around 1670. I've been searching for a while but am obviously confused as Ichabod is usually a male forename and it is definitely this, as her children's baptisms say so.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

Sussex Lookup Requests / Lookup for Edward Graves c 1815-1830 Chichester
« on: Wednesday 24 December 14 16:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!
Looking for a baptism/christening look up.

His name was Edward Graves.

He was born circa 1815, in Chichester, Sussex.

On his marriage certificate to his wife Elizabeth Horsfall Crowther, his father is Edward Greaves, farmer.

On the census and marriage his surname is Greaves. His death and maritime mariner records state Graves.

His birth can range from as early as 1813 to 1830.

If anyone could help that would be wonderful! :D

He had three children: Edward Crowther Graves 1863 - 1947, Elizabeth Horsfall Graves 1874-1874 and Simeon Graves 1870-1871

He possibly had a sister Ann Theresa Graves/Greaves who married a Thomas Burns in Liverpool and father Edward Greaves. There is no birth record of her either.

Cannot find Edward on the 1841, 1851 or 1861 census.
