Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / William Lawrence of Michelmersh
« on: Monday 23 June 08 02:34 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for information about a William Lawrence of Michelmersh who married Jane Gaiger in Kings Somborne in 1824.  It appears she remarried a Wm. Whitlock in Lockerly in 1843 and she is shown in 1851 census w/Wm Whitlock and son James Lawrence age 14, born Michelmersh.  I don't have access to 1841 census which might show her a widow or with William Lawrence.  Any information about William Lawrence born approx. 1790s with his birth family and the children of his marriage would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Kings Somborne PR CDs
« on: Wednesday 31 October 07 16:46 GMT (UK)  »
Kings Somborne parish marriages, baptisms, and burials have been transcribed on 3 CDs available for purchase.  http://www.communigate.co.uk/hants/somsoc/page11.phtml.  They are only 6 pounds each.  I have emailed both the president and secretary of the organization to purchase the CDs without success.  They do not accept paypal or credit cards and I have not found any way to send pounds sterling from the US in small amounts.  If anyone knows how to get around this limitation, I would be most appreciative as I would really like to purchase the CDs.

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Eliza SHERGOLD married in Alderbury 1838
« on: Saturday 13 October 07 07:37 BST (UK)  »
Looking for information about Eliza Shergold who married James Haines in Alderbury, Wiltshire in the 1st quarter of 1838.  I show one child, Robert, born in 1841.  Does anyone have relevant census or marriage information that would give clues to her birthdate/place and/or marriage info?  Thanks for checking.

Looking for the marriage record of William Brown (bapt. Apr 1822 in Alderbury) and Mary Anne whose 4 children, Robert, Sarah, George & William, were all born in Alderbury starting in 1853.

I have checked a microfilm of the Alderbury parish records for the relevant time period and find no marriage for those two individuals.  From the marriage record I would like to find out Mary Anne's maiden name also.  If someone has access to the 1861 census perhaps Mary Anne's birthplace would be revealed!

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Longstock or Kingsomborne marriage record
« on: Wednesday 22 August 07 06:00 BST (UK)  »
Looking for a marriage date for William Pottle b. 1813 in Kings Somborne and wife Elizabeth b. 1810 in Longstock, Hampshire.  Their first child, William, was born Jan 1838, so I'm assuming the marriage took place in 1837 or before.  I'm also looking for Elizabeth's surname.  William's parents are also William and Elizabeth b. ~1780.  Thanks for looking.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Pottles in Ashley and Kings Somborne
« on: Saturday 15 July 06 20:09 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for a death of Sara Pottle (age 3) in 1871 in Ashley or Kingsomborne.  Census records show a Sara age 3 in the 1871 census of Ashley.  Later census records in USA show a Sara born in March 1871.  I'm guessing a child died.

A later obituary referred to a child Anna Pottle born to Henry and Jane Pottle who only lived 2 months.  Most of their children were born in Kingsomborne, but at least one was born in Ashley.  Any information would be appreciated.  Many thanks.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Thomas Harrison wives - Alston, Cumberland
« on: Tuesday 11 April 06 17:08 BST (UK)  »
I have gotten mixed information about the wives of Thomas Harrison who was born in 1730, Allendale, Alston, Cumberland and had 16 children from 1754 to 1781.  The IGI lists the children as belonging to BOTH Jane Tingate (marr 3 or 31 May 1753) and either Mrs. Frances Harrison (marr 31 May 1753) or Frances Tingate (marr 3 May 1753).  Another wife, Sarah Kirk (marr 27 Oct 1788) is also listed with no children.  I think the first wife died (probably worn out from bearing all those children) and he remarried someone to finish raising them.  It is also possible that he married both Jane Tingate and a Frances ? and some of the children belong to one and some to the other.

Any woman who has 16 children at the very least deserves credit for it and I'd like to straighten out this confusion.   Does anyone have access to those parish records to figure this out?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Small black and white restoration
« on: Saturday 08 April 06 16:50 BST (UK)  »
This small black & white snapshot of my father with his parents, aunt and cousin was taken approx. 1940-41.  It is creased and the faces look like they could possibly be sharpened up a little.  Don't know if that is possible, but would appreciate someone trying.  I'd like to make copies for the rest of the family.  It is the first picture I had seen of my dad as a young boy.  Thanks.
