« on: Monday 02 January 06 15:09 GMT (UK)  »
Celia, thank you for your kind offer. This is a bit of a long shot but I'm absolutely stuck on this family from the 1861 census...

Ellen MILLER and her cousin Alexander JAFFRAY were supposed to be born in Chester about 1860. The Blacksmith is missing - I suspect his name might be John.

Roberts's Row, Saltney, Flintshire

Agnes MILLER - Wife - Mar - 30 - Blacksmith's Wife - b. Scotland
John MILLER - Son - 11 - b. Scotland
Robert MILLER - Son - 9 - b. Scotland
Agnes MILLER - Dau - 3 - b. Scotland
Ellen MILLER - Dau - 1 - b. Chester
Alexander JAFFRAY - Nephew - 1 - b. Chester
William Craig - Lodger - Un - 23 - Plumber - b. Scotland
John Gallachar - Lodger - Un - 26 - Blacksmiths Lab - b. Ireland

Thank you for anything you can find.

Regards,

Can anyone please help with the parents of Lydia Ann G DYKE born Glastonbury? ...

Births Dec 1874 - Wells  5c 545
DYKE  Lydia Ann

I'm looking at a family in Chilkwell Street, Glastonbury, headed by William and Mary. It looks to me like the same family. In the census they are listed thus...

1851 Clark - HO107/1935 F.242 P.8

1861 Dyke - RG9/1667 F.8 P.12

1871 Dyke - RG10/2451 F.10 P.11

1881 Clark - RG11/2413 F.53 P.9
includes Lydia Clark - 7 - Grand daughter - b. Glastonbury, Somerset

1891 Clarke and Dyke - RG12/2416 F.97 P.22
George D Clarke - Head - 42 - Fell Monger - b. Glastonbury, Somerset
Elizabeth - Wife - 48 - b. Weast Nr. Michester?
Lillian Ann Dyke - Niece - 16 - Brush Maker - b. Glastonbury, Somerset

Any ideas as to what is happening here?

Regards,
John

Durham / Jarrow - RC Baptisms on IGI
« on: Friday 16 December 05 18:12 GMT (UK)  »
IGI Batch  No. C009969 has Female Baptisms from 1879 to 1883, as far as I can see. This batch is searchable on just mother's maiden name if required - very useful.

I'm wondering where the Boys are, and why they haven't been entered? There doesn't seem to be any description for the batch. I'm assuming it was St Bedes Church.

John

Scotland / Brickwall help please - MILLER & JAFFRAY
« on: Thursday 01 December 05 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please help - I can't find anything on this family before 1861 (Census below).

There must be a link between MILLER and JAFFRAY, or perhaps Agnes' maiden name and JAFFRAY. And where's the Blacksmith? (his name might be John).

Sorry, but not much to go on. I believe young Agnes and Ellen were in the Tynemouth Workhouse by 1871.

1861 Census - RG9/2634 F.18 P.31
Roberts's Row, Saltney, Flintshire, Wales

Agnes MILLER - Wife - Mar - 30 - Blacksmith's Wife - b. Scotland
John MILLER - Son - 11 - b. Scotland
Robert MILLER - Son - 9 - b. Scotland
Agnes MILLER - Dau - 3 - b. Scotland
Ellen MILLER - Dau - 1 - b. Chester
Alexander JAFFRAY - Nephew - 1 - b. Chester
William Craig - Lodger - Un - 23 - Plumber - b. Scotland
John Gallachar - Lodger - Un - 26 - Blacksmiths Lab - b. Ireland

Thank you for any help.

« on: Sunday 27 November 05 16:02 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have a missing Hannah born about 1790 in Nettlecombe?

She married Samuel RADFORD born c1792 Colton, Staffordshire, and they raised their family there. I have them on the censuses but haven't been able to find a marriage.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1881 - Who was the Professional Nurse?
« on: Friday 18 November 05 22:05 GMT (UK)  »
I'm hoping someone with access to this 1881 image can help me sort out this problem please...

1881 Census - RG11/0279 F.48 P.1

I believe Ann CROSS was my 3g-grandmother (born as Ann WILLY 19 Jan 1798 South Petherton, Somerset)

The census image has been messed about with, and looks like the ages have been written out of step, then corrected. But who was the Professional Nurse? If it was Ann CROSS was she really an 'Inmate', although 84 years old?

The occupation has been allocated to Ann CHAPPELL. I believe I've found her in 1871, and she was a 'Laundress'...

1871 Census - RG10/276 F.27 P.1.

The only previous census entry I have for Ann CROSS is 1851. She was working in Greenwich as a Servant - Nurse...

1851 Census - HO107/1586 F.386 P.12.

I have searched extensively for her in 1861 and 1871 to no avail.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Regards,
John
