United States of America / William John PLUNKETT
« on: Saturday 26 March 16 06:19 GMT (UK)  »
Having discovered a death notice I would like to ask for some help please.

William John born 1867 in Liverpool, Lancashire, his parents were
William Plunkett and Catherine Smyth (Smith) both born in Ireland

The death notice states that William John died on the 30 Sep 1924 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan and also shows that he was married.

William John is on the 1881 UK census but not the 1891 so am assuming he emigrated prior to 1891. There is an entry on a ships passenger list for that name but it describes him as GENT.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this please.  Thank you for reading.

Ireland / PLUNKETT to SMYTH
« on: Friday 25 March 16 09:11 GMT (UK)  »
Morning all, ready to tear my hair out but before I do could I ask for fresh eyes to look at this please.

I have William PLUNKETT on the 1871 and 1881 census in Liverpool, he is with his wife Catherine. We know Catherine is a SMYTH and she was born 1843 in Dublin (we have the baptism).

They have a child Mary born c1865 and I have the baptism in Bohermeen (there is also a William John the same age but no birth place) shown on the 1871 census as being born in Ireland so would assume they married in Ireland.

Nowhere can I find a marriage for William and Catherine, would welcome your thoughts please. Thank you

Devon / Sidney CHARD
« on: Friday 25 September 15 13:53 BST (UK)  »
In 1868 one of my ancestors took Sidney Chard to the Magistrates in South Molton, Devon to claim maintenance for an illegitimate child and was awarded 1s a week.  Sidney was represented by Mr. Incledon Bencraft who from searching Google appears to have been a solicitor.

Sidney might have been a Shepherd so I am curious as to how he would have afford a solicitor.

Any thoughts appreciated. ???

Cheshire / June A Wood
« on: Saturday 30 May 15 20:05 BST (UK)  »
Helping a friend who lives in Canada.  She has June A. Wood born May 1932 in Stockport.

We believe June's parents are Edward Wood and Beatrice Elizabeth Hawkins.  We think that B E Hawkins was born in West Derby in 1906 and married in West Derby in 1929.  Have not been able to pin down Edward Wood and he is the direct line.

Any help would be appreciated.
