Hi

I have the burial registry reference from findmypast for several graves.  What is the next step for locating them.  Can I just turn up at the cemetery?

Devon / Visiting Devon Heritage Centre
« on: Sunday 20 December 15 05:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am unexpectedly getting to visit UK in 2016 and hope to fit in a visit to Devon Heritage Centre as there is a record held there I would love to gain access to.  I know the ropes for visiting achives in good old Oz, but this will be a completely new experience for me.  The record is for a removal order, (Henry Manfield from Luppitt to Burlescombe) and I don't know what this documentation is likely to comprise.  Is it likely to be multiple pages or just a single paragraph?  I don't know whether to pay the 5 pound fee to take photographs, or just pay for them to do photocopies.  Also it said something about a readers ticket.  I did not see how to go about obtaining this, but maybe I will have to check out the website more closely.

Kent Lookup Requests / WHEELER in Lewisham
« on: Saturday 16 July 11 05:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have been using the library version of ancestry at my local library, but I cannot find this Wheeler family there in the 1861 census:-

Thomas b 1823
Esther b 1824 Deptford
John b 1849 Greenwich/Lewisham
"Margrett" and Sarah Ann b 1859 Greenwich

They are transcribed elsewhere in 1861 as "Whaler" instead of "Wheeler" but I still havent been able to locate them. I am wondering if they have been ommitted from ancestry?   Not even the deviation from the usual spelling of Margaret is bringing them to light, but maybe someone else will be more successful.

Thanks

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / HACK in 1841
« on: Friday 19 November 10 13:12 GMT (UK)  »
There is an Elizabeth Hack, fruiterer in the historical directories in 1841 listed as being on the corner of Chadwell and St John Street, and I think she is my Elizabeth who would be widowed by this time.  I don't know if anyone can spot her in the 1841 census?  Thanks

Surrey Lookup Requests / CLARK 1841 Southwark
« on: Monday 04 October 10 06:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I have had a go at finding these in 1841 before, with no success, but I now have a bit more accurate information which perhaps might help.
Looking for Henry, b about 1818 not in county (Deptford, Kent in later census)
wife Sarah, b about 1818 also possibly not born in county.
children:-
Henry b July 23rd 1838
Emma b 13th August 1840
Both childrens births registered in St George the Martyr, Southwark.
A later sibling Thomas was born in 1844.  I now have his birth certificate and the address stated is 9 Martin Street, Southwark.   (According to the "old to new" street names site, this is now Miniver Street)
I don't know if anyone is able to find who was living at 9 Martin Street in 1841, whether it was them, or if it is one of those areas that were missed on the census.  I also am fairly convinced that I have checked out all possible "Clark" entries in previous searches, and that the surname probably is mis-transcribed.  Either way, I would be very interested to know who is living at No 9.
Hope it's not too big a challenge!

Thanks

London and Middlesex / BOASTRIDGE/BOURTRIDGE 1861 please
« on: Monday 25 January 10 03:00 GMT (UK)  »
This one is proving a bit of a challenge to find in 1861.  I have the marriage of Sarah to Richard "Boastridge" in 1845.  Her death is recorded as "Boastridge" in 1866.  In 1851 my FindMyPast subscription has helped me to find them in Greenwich as "Bourtridge", but they are really eluding me in 1861.

Sarah was born in Deptford Kent approx 1796, and Richard was born in Deptford Kent in approx 1803.  Richard was a bricklayer in 1851.

Many thanks.
