Glamorganshire / Ffynnon Iago Fach Farm.
« on: Monday 11 December 23 16:40 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone recognise the name of the farm, and more importantly the whereabouts on the ground? I think it's somewhere around Parc Slip, probably to the north of The Fountain on the B4281 and south of Llangynwyd. I've been looking on Google and OS Maps with no luck.

EDIT I've just found Ffynnon Iago Fawr (Big) Farm, just need to locate Fach (Small) Farm now. Fawr was found about half a mile north of Margam Opencast Coal Mine, N/NE of Kenfig Hill.

The Common Room / John the Daughter?
« on: Friday 21 December 18 15:42 GMT (UK)  »
I'm currently trawling through online Bishop's transcripts for Norfolk and found an entry for a John registered as a daughter. Now would I be correct in assuming her name was actually Joan rather than John? No connection to my family BTW, just saw the dried ink and curiosity has kicked in.

Here's the link to the parish record. Second entry down...... https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-DTVT-4?i=7&wc=M625-YW1%3A160239801%2C160561901%2C160243102%2C160239804&cc=1824688

The Common Room / Buried days before baptism? Surely not?
« on: Thursday 20 December 18 15:17 GMT (UK)  »
Got a bit of a strange one here. I'm sure there are many of you who have come across this sort of thing before, but it's a slight head-scratcher.

I've been perusing the parish records of Saxthorpe in Norfolk and come across a baptism of James Pegg, son of Richard and Diana (I believe her maiden name is Armyger/Armiger), on May 13th, 1753. But on the next page, a James Pegg, son of Richard and Diana is buried on May 6th, 1753.

The only explanation is TWO couples named Richard and Diana Pegg, each with a son named James! And BOTH in the same tiny VILLAGE!!  :o Or the vicar got his dates wrong.  ;D

Norfolk / Harvey Family of Binham, Norfolk.
« on: Monday 17 December 18 22:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm looking for any information regarding a number of individuals of the Harveys. I have a Thomas Harvey born around 1650 in Binham. He married an Alice, who I'd really like to know her maiden name and the date/year of their marriage. They had a number of children, including Ann b1675, Alice b1678, and my direct ancestor John b1683. He married an Elizabeth Munsen at Binham in 1708. They had a daughter, Alice, born at Binham in 1712, and she married Andrew Baker at Saxlingham in 1747.

As well as wishing to know the maiden name of the first Alice above, I'm also very keen to discover the identity of Elizabeth Munson's parents and also Andrew Baker's. Hopefully, someone will recognise one or all, and help me on my way.

Jonathan.

Essex / Seeking help on the Stace family of Epping.
« on: Saturday 15 December 18 14:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm hoping there is someone out there who is able to assist in my research. I'm trying to find information on the following individuals.

Mary Pegg(e) born around 1630-1640. Married George Stace in Epping on 11/3/1655. Looking for her parents.

Anne Mason born around 1663 possibly in Loughton. Married George Stace(Jr) in Loughton on 1/10/1696. Looking for her parents.

Mary Perry born c1735 possibly in Epping. Married Richard Stace in Epping on 24/10/1756. Looking for her parents.

Jane Hummerstone born 1775 in Epping. Married James Stace in Epping on 15/5/1797. Parents were John Hummerstone & Susannah Smith. Looking for Susannah's mother's maiden name. Susannah's father is Thomas born in Chipping Onger in 1733. Her mother is Mary (no other details).
Also trying to trace records for John Hummerstone's parents. They are another John Hummerstone, and Mary Tanson, born c1720.

Hopefully some of these names will crop up on someone's tree.

Jonathan.

The Common Room / Legal age of marriage in England in 17th century.
« on: Friday 14 December 18 23:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi rooters, I have a query... I have the marriage date of a George Stace and Mary Pegge in Epping, Essex. They were married in 1755 and I'm currently using online resources to try and discover their birth records. So far I have found a record for a Mary Pegg (minus the e on the end of the surname) born in Epping in 1740, and no other births in Essex going back to 1725. Do I assume this is the right individual given she would have been 14 or 15 years old at the time of the wedding?

I feel I should point out that the Stace family of Epping were Quakers if that makes any difference.

Hi, I've been blown away by some of the restored photos I've been looking at and thought I'd ask for some help with this photo of my ancestors who were born in the 1830s. Any assistance with improving the clarity of the image, or help with dating it, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / William Small of East Cowes, IoW.
« on: Monday 10 December 18 17:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have a direct ancestor named William Small who was born around 1801 in East Cowes. He married a Jemima b1803? in Gosport, Hampshire. They had ten children in all:

Susanna 1821 ?
William 1828 ?
George 1830 Brightlingsea, Essex
Jane 1833 Hastings, Sussex -- my direct ancestor
Henry 1834 ?
Elizabeth 1836 Newport, IoW
Cardine 1838 ?
John 1840 ?
Richard 1845 Brightlingsea, Essex
George 1849 Sidestrand, Norfolk.

William was a Boatman Coast Guard and the family eventually ended up on the north coast of Norfolk, where Jane married James Dennis to continue the line down to me.

I can't find the parents of William nor the maiden name of Jemima. Any help will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Oxfordshire / Eva Tweed, Carterton, Oxon.
« on: Saturday 08 December 18 21:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm not related to Eva Tweed but I own a Morris motorcar that was registered new to her in 1932 so I'm trying to trace a history for it before the 1970s, which is lacking. I know she was living at Mangapapa Farm which was located opposite to what is now the junction to Butlers Drive, on Black Bourton Road. The area has obviously totally changed in the intervening 86-yrs thanks to the nearby RAF Brize Norton. I know she married a Thomas Grimshaw in 1935 at Witney, Oxon. I've looked online to see if I could find any photos of the house which I believe survived until sometime in the early 1970s, but to no avail. If anyone has any information or pointers I'll be very happy to hear from you. I'm hoping to make a visit to the records office in the future, but it's an awfully long journey to get there so won't be happening for a while.

Thanks in advance.

Jon
