Laois (Queens) / William MALONEY and Mary DUNN
« on: Thursday 09 November 06 19:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everybody!

I am trying to find the marriage certificate of those two, my GGgrand parents; they came from Ireland, county Cork ( William) and Queens ( Mary).I don't know if they were married in Ireland or in Lancashire. In 1861, they were living in Manchester; William was around 35 years old at that time and Mary Dunn, 28. In 1861, the oldest child was 13 years old. According to the 1861 census, all the children were born in Manchester.  William was  a shoemaker.

They had seven children: John, Mary Ellen ( my great grandmother who married James Howard in 1881), William, Elizabet-A ( who married Jonathan Summergils in 1875), Joseph, James and Daniel (or Dennis).

If you are descendants of these people, please contact me.... Thank you very much!!
Regards

Hello there
My great-grandmother, Mary Ellen Howard (formaly Malone) died at Crumpsall Hospital on May 29th 1890. She was buried in St-Joseph RC Cemetery. She was catholic.Where could I find the parish record of her funerals and burial? It would give me more details on her family; I know her father's name is William Malone, but I don't know her mother's name. etc Her brother is Joseph Malone.
I visited England and St-Joseph Cemetery one month ago and saw her tombstone.
Can you help me please?

Lancashire / HOWARD-OWEN 1899
« on: Tuesday 08 November 05 01:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I'm trying to find out if Ernest HOWARD and Jane OWEN, married on the 25 th of May 1899 in St Annes, Newton, had any children.
Ernest was the son of James Howard and Mary Winstanley (married in 1859 in Manchester), and Jane the daughter of John and Sarah A, Owen.
I know that in the 1901 Census, they lived at 4 Bath St, Miles Platting with Jane's mother (widow) and they don't have any child yet...
Thank you for your help.

regards   ;)

« on: Thursday 27 October 05 02:16 BST (UK)  »
 Hello there

If you have access to  the 1841 Census,

I have six couples, John Howard and wife, married in Manchester in 1838-1839.

1. John Howard & Elizabeth Hunt, 1838, Manchester Cathedral,
2. John Howard & Elizabeth Knowles, 1838, Manchester Cathedral.

3. John C Howard & Elizabeth Kemp, 1839, Manchester Cathedral
4. John Howard & Martha Holmes, 1839, Manchester Registrar
5. John Howard & Martha Cooper, 1839, Manchester Registrar
6. John Howard & Jane Whittaker, 1839, Manchester Cathedral

Would you be kind enough to check if one of them has a child named "JAMES" Howard, born in 1839 or 1840, in the 1841 Census?

That James would probably be my G-grandfather  ( I hope)
(b 1840,  James was 20 y.o at his marriage in Nov. 1859, , and 41 in the 1881 Cnesus,        ,d. January 26th 1890 in Newton,Prestwhich)
Thank you so very much for your help.

Lancashire / (Come on in Sherlock!) Father and son, John and James Howard
« on: Saturday 22 October 05 16:24 BST (UK)  »
FOR ALL THE AGATHAS  AND SHERLOCKS  OUT THERE,
ANOTHER ONE FOR YOU!!

Here are the clues…

JAMES HOWARD

1)  These are the facts and dates we have; we are  trying to find out:  which James Howard could be the right one  from the list of births below? Give me please your insights. James varied on his birthplace, Newton Heath, Manchester.

2) Is there a  1841 Census?  It would help here I presume

3) I need threads to find his father John: he was living and a witness at James marriage in 1859, but not at the second one  in 1882. Died between those two dates??
He was a warper; the address on the  1859  marriage certificate says 31 Garratt Street (if I read correctly) :was that James address as a "bachelor" or was James living at his father's place ? In 1861, James was living at 46 George St , Newton, and had a 1 month child.

4) 1861 -1871- Censuses could tell the father's place.
Attachments : 1859  marriage certificate ,table of dates in James life, list of possible births.

I don't know the name of John Howard's wife, or if they had other children with James. That would be interesting to find out!!

regards to all investigators!!

Lancashire / To the Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes out there!
« on: Thursday 20 October 05 03:43 BST (UK)  »
Hello There!

I would like to have your interpretation of the death certificate of my G-grandmother, Mary Ellen Malone. She died May 29th 1890 at Crumpsall Workhouse, 4 months after her husband's death.
If you would please read the certificate and try to answer the following questions, it would help me a lot.

1) What is the occupation of Mary Ellen? Is wood turner a woman's job? What is that job?
2) Were the inmates of the workhouse allowed to leave during the day to work and come back at night?
3) She died from acute pneumonia at the Workhouse. Was she living there, according to the certificate? Did she arrive  there only when she became sick?
4) Was she living at her brother's place? Joseph Malone is the informant.
5) Is it possible to find Newburgh Street in 1890 Manchester? I still can.t….  ??? Does that street really exist? If not…
6) I found on the 1881 Census the following information:

Jane MALONE Head W Female 53 Ireland Winder Cotton Mill
Joseph MALONE Son U Male 21 Manchester, Lancashire, England Turner Wood
Dwelling 1 Butterworths Bdgs Census Place Manchester, Lancashire, England

I could not find William Malone, Mary's father. Maybe Jane and Joseph are his widow and son…. Where would they be in 1891, one year after Mary's death? Or where could I find that Joseph Malone? The 1891 Census would maybe give us a clue.

Mary Ellen was buried in the paupers saction in St-Joseph RC Cemetery. It means that Mary had no money,    and her Malone family had no money…or did not want to deal with the workhouse ( and a 5 y.o. orphan Mary Howard my grandmother, who was shipped to Canada to be adopted)…

What is your interpretation? What answers can we put together? I don't want to judge anybody, I just want to know better what my family went through more than 120 years ago!.

Thanks to each one of you.   :)
Regards
