Aberdeenshire / Another photo in Robert Herd's album
« on: Saturday 10 January 15 06:15 GMT (UK)  »
This photo was also in my great grandfather collection along with many more photos which sadly my grandmother threw away because she didn't know who they were. !! The couple behind the bride I know to be Thomas and Mary Herd and I have to assume either the bride or groom is a son, daughter or perhaps grandchild. Robert doesn't appear to be in this photo as far as I can make out. My hope is that another copy of this photo may have survived in another family and more faces will gain names.
Did family's have an order in which they tended to be placed in photos in those days such as brides family on one side and grooms on another or is that just wishful thinking on my part? The original is in a sepia tone but made the file to large to load so I have changed it to black and white.
Thanks
Anne

Aberdeenshire / Is this photo taken in Fetterangus
« on: Sunday 04 January 15 00:24 GMT (UK)  »
Have been trying to discover for a long time if this photo taken of my gg grandfather Robert Hard was taken in Fetterangus. He was born in 1846 to Thomas and Mary Herd. When only quite young he went to sea changing his surname to Hard and came to Australia sometime in the 1880's. He returned to Scotland at least once when this photo was taken. Thomas was a crofter at Easter Toux (16 acres) and a one stage the family lived in the village of Fetterangus.
Any help on this would be wonderful.

Roxburghshire / James Hogg and Janet Gibson married Stow 1810
« on: Thursday 01 January 15 06:55 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any information on this couple and their family, James b1811, Christina or Christian b1812,  Thomas b1818 and Flora B 1821. Flora married George Rutherford in 1844 and they came to Australia in 1864 to Rockhampton, Queensland. I am the great great granddaughter of this couple Janet died in 1869 and her father was Thomas Gibson of Windydoors. Christina married John Henderson a farmer at Chesterhill parish of Humbie in 1836. I cant find any thing much about James Hogg except I think his father was also James and James jun may well have been dead by the time Flora married. The family were at Wetherstone in the 1841 census with James listed as 50 years of age. Any Help on this family or the areas they lived and worked in would be wonderful.
Cheers Anne
