Census and Resource Discussion / Death of Charles William Squires
« on: Tuesday 01 March 22 14:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

My great-grandfather is driving me mad. I've been trying to track down his death but without success.

I've looked on Ancestry, FindMyPast, Family Search and Free BMD, but not a trace.

Would anyone be able to help me out?

Charles William Squires (apparently he went by William)
b. West Derby 1875

He was living in Barry in the 1921 census at 23, Commercial Road, Barry and is in the electoral register at the same address until 1929.

His second wife Frances Maud died in Liverpool in around 1944 where she had moved with her children after the pair appear to have split up. I have a feeling he died around 1946.

Any clues gratefully accepted.

Warwickshire / Fawdry's Buildings
« on: Friday 28 January 22 17:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

According to my ancestor's baptismal records, his family were living at Fawdry's Buildings, All Saints, Birmingham. I've tried looking at various maps from a little later but cannot see anything.

Would anyone have any idea where this might have been?

Thanks!

Armed Forces / Uniform/cap badge ID
« on: Saturday 22 January 22 18:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

Very much a shot in the dark but would anyone be able to identify this uniform? I am trying to ID my GGF's unit (I fear he may be the one in drag), but I can't make out the cap badge. I believe it is of my GGF at camp in around 1905 (that's the date on the back). His unit would have been in South Wales

Glamorganshire / 11, The Tunnel, Cardiff
« on: Sunday 16 January 22 20:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I have an ancestor who was living at 11, The Tunnel, which was in St. John's, Cardiff in 1881. I think this refers to the Glamorgan Canal, but does anyone know where it was? I can't see it on any online map, and I assume it is now under the Queen St developments.

Thanks

Cornwall / Jenkins family of Constantine and Stithians
« on: Friday 23 February 18 12:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for information on my Jenkins forebears from Cornwall. I know the Jenkins family lived in and around the Helston, Constantine and Stithians area, and I know they operated Ponjeravah mill at Constantine. It seems that they joined the Cornish diaspora and headed for Swansea in around 1840.

Does anyone else know anything about this family?

Library and FHS Lookups / Charles William Squires
« on: Wednesday 04 March 15 12:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me out here.  My GGF Charles William Squires was born in West Derby in July 1875.  In 1896 he married Florence Leighton in West Derby and in 1903 he married again to Frances Maud Williams in Liverpool.

At some point in 1903 he moved to Abertillery where my GF Herbert Stanley Squires was born in 1903 and in 1911 census he is shown living in Barry. But, while I am curious as to why he moved south (he wasn't in industry, but there are other Squires in the Abertillery area) I want to know what happened to him after 1911 as I am unable to find a death registered.

Also, family lore says that he had been a soldier and that his Florence Maud's family were not impressed by the union, but I can find nothing to back that up. By 1903-1911 he was a painter and decorator.

Any assistance much appreciated as he is causing me to pull out what little remains of my hair!

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / William Squires of Kimbolton look-up request
« on: Monday 26 January 15 19:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I believe that I have an ancestor named William Squires who was born in Kimbolton around 1813. He moved to the Midlands and married Sarah Ann Nutt in Birmingham in 1840. He may have later returned to Kimbolton, having remarried to Louisa, before dying in 1888.

I'd be very grateful if someone could supply any info on William and his parentage, as I've hit a wall.

Thanks
