Breconshire / Mary McDonough born circa 1870
« on: Tuesday 04 October 22 20:17 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for anything about my great grandmother's sister Mary McDonough. She's on the 1881 census as Mary MacDonald living in Talgarth and the 1891 census living in Brecon, both with the family but I can't find anything much other than that. On the census it says she was born in Brecon but I haven't found her birth record. They were an Irish Traveller family; mother Winifred Fury and father Phillip McDonough. Sometimes they would change their surname to Macdonald, also seen it spelled on records as McDonald, McDonach and so on. In my great uncle's memoirs it says that my great grandmother said she thinks she might have migrated to the USA. I've seen a couple of ship passenger records that might be her but not sure.

My great great great grandmother Barbara Muth was said to be from Germany and I think she came to Britain at around the time of the German revolution. Working as a dressmaker in White Chapel on the 1851 census and then marrying in Cardiff a few years later. However on her marriage certificate it shows two different names. With the other one I can't quite understand the writing, not only that but judging by the accents on the letters it seems like it might be another language not German. Maybe it's possible she or her family came from one of the other Holy Roman Empire countries originally?

Glamorganshire / Minnie Maher née Taylor born 1886 Briton Ferry
« on: Saturday 21 May 22 17:20 BST (UK)  »
Hiya I'm looking for anything on my great aunty Minnie Taylor born in Briton Ferry in 1886. Her family had moved to Swansea by the 1901 census and she married an John Joseph Maher (born circa 1881) in August 1915 registered to the Neath area as they were both living in Briton Ferry. But can't find anything on them after this? I also can't find her on the 1911 census. Her husband might have been Irish, I haven't found a birth record for him. Wondering if they emigrated somewhere?

Radnorshire / Mary Moseley née Lloyd of Llanbister or Llanbadarn Fawr
« on: Monday 05 April 21 17:58 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone could please help find the parentage of Mary Lloyd (circa 1791-1868). Birth place on one census is Llanbister and Llanbadarn Fawr on another. She married John Moseley and had a sister Jane whose married name was Matthews but this is the furthest back on this line I've managed so far.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Charlotte Bamford
« on: Sunday 10 April 16 12:49 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for a birth or baptism record of Charlotte Bamford born circa 1767. She married Joseph Symonds 1785 in Westminster but I think she or her family were from Gloucestershire. Can't seem to find any record of them other that her marriage and name at her children's baptisms.

I'm looking for the marriage between Sir William Powell (formerly Hinson) of Pengethley and Lady Mary Brydges (formerly Pearle) of Aconbury and trying to determine whether his daughter Mary Powell was born to Mary or his other wife Katherine Zouch.

A few sources including Wikipedia (which references Burke's Peerage) state that Mary Pearle/Brydges was his first wife but I've found his marriage to Katherine to be in 1649 which was a few years before Mary's first husband Sir John Brydges passed away. Katherine is said to have died in 1660 and Mary Powell is said to have been baptised in 1662 although I haven't found those records either.

I've also read that William and Katherine had a few children before Mary Powell was born and that she is Mary Pearle's child but i can't find any names or records of the other children. Would appreciate any help thanks!x

Cornwall / Honour Prideaux / Esdras Giddy
« on: Wednesday 14 January 15 22:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I'm looking for evidence of a marriage between Honour (or Honor) Prideaux (b. circa 1649 In Cornwall (supposedly) to Edmund Prideaux b. 1606 at Soldon Manor, Devon and Bridgett Moyle) And Esdras Giddy (b. circa 1640).

I can't find sources for either of their births/baptisms but over 100 family trees on ancestry.co.uk list her as daughter of Edmund and Bridgett and many list cite her marriage To Esdras Giddy with other trees on the website as their source.

There is however evidence of a marriage between an Honour Prideaux and James Berdow in London 1699 which some people have listed as her second marriage.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Marriage of Constance Roose
« on: Wednesday 14 January 15 22:19 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone tell me if Constance Roose (baptised in Liskeard 1724) married around 1749? I've seen her noted as being married to a Samuel Davey but I'm not sure if this is correct. Thanks.

Breconshire / McDonough
« on: Wednesday 14 January 15 21:36 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have any info on the McDonough family who lived around the Brecon area in the second half of the 19th century (and probably into the 20th/possibly still there)?

My great great grandfather was named Phillip McDonough (b. circa 1849) and was either an Irish immigrant or his father (I think named William McDonough) was. I think they were travellers and the family seemed to live in a few different areas of Wales but mainly Breconshire.

The census makes things confusing because sometimes it says he was born in Lincolnshire and other times it says Ireland. I thought it could be different people but the children's names and ages are the same. Also the surname is often spelt completely wrong although people seem to have corrected it on the Ancestry census listings. Another strange thing is that it's sometimes listed as Macdonald which I thought might be a mistake but having read memoirs written by my great uncle apparently some of the family did change their name.

Grateful for any information!

Thanks.
