The Common Room / Marriage 1886
« on: Friday 08 September 17 16:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello would someone who married in 1886 have needed to show their birth certificate as it seems my great nan used another surname when she married other than the one on her birth certificate. She was born out of wedlock in a workhouse no father mentioned on the certificate she was named under her mothers maiden name. She was baptised under that name also and kept that surname till the 1881 census. When she married in 1886 her surname had changed and it states her fathers name and in brackets dead . We have checked and double checked and it does seem to be the right person we are looking at. ???

Lincolnshire / Help !
« on: Monday 09 January 17 14:32 GMT (UK)  »
After many years of searching for our nans birth and place of birth I have at last proof of her family being in Greater Grimsby at the time of her birth. Her father worked for the railway and the family had moved from area to area over a number of years until they settled in Derby. All of my nans siblings births have been registered at their time of birth but not nans. She had always told us she was born in Grimsby but after she died we could not find a birth certificate. Since then we have found her and her siblings of various ages all being baptised together in Derby nan being 11yrs old at that time and census records stating she was born in Grimsby. We had been able to pinpoint her family over many years at various places but could not until now prove that they had been in Grimsby at the time of nans birth. Through a news paper clipping of her father being fined for not having a dog license in Grimsby 1896 and also an address with him on in the electoral register for that time also we have proof of the Grimsby connection but how can I now try to find her birth reg when all other attempts have failed. My nans name was Jessie Louise Churchyard her date of birth given 12th Aug 1895.  Her father was Alfred James Churchyard born 1862/3 Yoxford her mother was Sarah Louise Churchyard nee Coldham born about 1867 West Dereham. The address in Grimsby was 24 Dover Street , West Marsh Grimsby. They had left Grimsby by 1897 and moved to Notts him still working for the railway as a signal man at that time. Any idea's anyone please.

Anglesey / Henry Jones and family menai anglesey
« on: Saturday 31 January 15 18:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I,m researching my husbands family on his mothers side who were all born and lived in menai. His grandma leaving there in her teens to marry in Colechester leaving her parents and siblings. My husband remembers visiting her sisters with his mum when he was young but knows nothing really of his great grandad and ancesters who were all Anglesey born and bred. The aunts who he used to visit are all passed now as is his mother who apparently knew little other than her mothers sisters. The family grave is on church island which we have visited a few times but is very overgrown and has just a small squarish stone just visable. We understand that this stone was put there in about 1964 when my husbands gran passed away and two of her sons travelled to Anglesey with the stone and her ashes to place it on a grave that was already there. The part of the stone that was visable has inscribed on one side Jane Ellen ( my husbands nan ) on another side Henry ( her father ) I only discovered he was her father through research , the name Elizabeth on another side ( her mother ) again through research and another name which we could not make out. We did want to have a good dig around as we are sure there would be another larger slab or something underneath but as I say the ground  is solid and I don't think the vicar ect would think to good of us if we started digging about  :) . So I have Henry Jones boatman born about 1865 in menai bridge lived at port Llandegfan also later in Well st menai. I believe he married Elizabeth Williams in about 1895 at bangor. She was from Bethesda. Their children were
William H born 1897 Llandegfan port died falling from the bridge so family say in about the 1930's working on it I think.
Jane Ellen born 1899 Llandegfan port ( my husbands nan )
Lizzie born 1900 passed away 1979 married to Renig Merion Jones lived ryhdd menai
Richard m born 1901 Llandegfan port
kittie born 1902 Llandegfan port
Hugh born 1905 llandegfan port
Peggy born 1911ish well street menai bridge. The family of henry Jones were still at well street in 1917 other than that we do not know when Henry died, we think his parents were Hugh jones and Jane jones he being a mariner too. They lived in Bryn pilot during the 1880's/90's we think. Any information at all we would be very gratefull ,it is difficult for us to get back to menai ill health and distance but we will eventually . Sorry for a bit of a drawn out post ???

Lincolnshire / Jessie Louisa Churchyard
« on: Saturday 17 January 15 18:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello I'm looking for any information as regards my grandmothers birth. We have never been able to find any reference to her birth i.e birth cert or on any records we have looked up for her
birth. She had several sisters and brothers all registered even though her parents moved about a lot. Her babtism wasn't until she was age 6 and living in Derby where the family settled. She always told us she was born in Grimsby and the records we do have state she was born in Grimsby but no birth record at all. We have never found her birth cert when she died but she must have had one as she had a passport in the early 70's. Her Father may have been involved in the pub trade at that time 1895 his name was Alfred James Churchyard and her mother Sarah Louisa Churchyard. Even though I can more or  less trace the family movements I come to a blank with regards there whereabouts in the year she was born . This has baffled all our family for years now. Her and her sisters were so much alike in looks you could quite easily mistake one for the other so we do not think she was just bought up as Alfred and Sarahs daughter as I know it happened a lot. Any help please thanks ???
