My g- grandfather John Horrobin born 1841-42 was married to Mary Jane Foden in 1864,Manchester Cathedral.
His father is documented as Joseph.
John is a carter,he is in the 1891 census living in Bradford,Manchester.
His eldest son is Joseph. His daughter Alice Ann Horrobin is my grandmother, his youngest son was Abraham.
I have not been able to find John Horrobin's birth certificate, even though the trail is
Joseph to John to Joseph the eldest son of John.
I am hoping there is someone who could do a look-up for me.

Lancashire / Ann Foden nee Barber Ardwick,Manchester.
« on: Friday 18 March 16 20:14 GMT (UK)  »
Wow just Wow,so glad I stumbled upon this topic,I too have been searching the 1841 Census,of Ardwick,Manchester.

My 2nd great grandmother Ann Foden nee Barber is listed as 25yrs.old .

Her sister Elizabeth  Hallas nee Barber is also recorded as 25yrs.old.

I thought they were twins.

There are a number of Barber on the page but no indication if they are related or in what way.

I had to search the Hallas to find out the girls were sisters.

« on: Friday 28 August 15 16:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have found the marriage of my g-grandparents John Horobin - Mary Jane Foden at St.Mary St.Deny's St George in 1864.

The names of the Father's appear as Joseph Horobin and John Foden however the mother's name is not mentioned.

I have tried searching just the father's name for marriages but have had no success.

Thank you, for any advice.

Family History Beginners Board / A question about ships lists
« on: Friday 10 April 15 20:46 BST (UK)  »
My late husband's ggrandfather is found in Quebec in 1851 as a servant he is 20 years old, working for a very prominant man who was a lawyer, judge and politition  in his private life also as an Officer in the British Army, at that time the British were the ruling government. The Census of lower Canada (of which Quebec is a part) gives his Country of Birth as England.I have wondered if he was an indentured servant? he was one of five people working for Mr E. Bowen and the only one not born in Quebec.
I have tried the ships list,to no avail.I have read the ships captains were not obliged to keep list at the time,I have wondered if such  lists would be kept by the UK of outward bound passengers, and people leaving the country to work.
