Canada / Abraham Collicott,Canterbury,N.B.-Death Records?
« on: Monday 11 December 23 04:34 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking information on death/burial records for Abraham COLLICOTT b.June 3,1845 Canterbury,York,N.B.,d.1881 (?) s/o William COLLICOTT and Jerusha ESTEY. Abraham md.Mary Theodora COULTHARD b.1847,d.1937 d/o William D. COULTHARD and Hannah DOW;2nd md.1910 Chesley HANSON. One thing to note is that there is a 29 year gap between Abraham's death and Dora's 2nd marriage, her age at that time being 63 (curious about that,too.....)

I cannot find any record of a death or burial for Abraham anywhere. For all I know,he could be buried in Canterbury but if there was a gravestone,it's not there now. Dora's death certificate on PANB lists her burial as "Dow Cemetery" (poss. Lower Meductic?),while Chesley was buried at "Douglas Municipal Cemetery". Seems the burials for both Dora and Chesley are not available either on Findagrave or PANB,so I can't tell which husband,if any,Dora would have been buried with. In 1891 she and the children were living in her father's home in Canterbury.

Abraham and Dora had five children:

1.Hulda Victoria (1871-1965);md.Roscoe DURLING
2.Edwin (Edward?) H. (1873-)
3.Ernest (1874-);md.Mary WHITE
4.Hannah Amy (1877-1959);md.Elijah JOHNSON (note:Elijah's mother Ruth was Abraham's sister, making them first cousins)
5.David (1879-)

At the moment,I want to focus on Abraham's whereabouts:when exactly he died, where he died, and possibly, but not vital at the moment, why Dora didn't remarry until 1910.

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Clarendon,NB,Canada-Looking for History of Community
« on: Sunday 12 March 23 01:23 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking information on the history of Clarendon,Queens,N.B.,Canada. It is a small, dispersed community in New Brunswick that was mostly made up of farmers and partly expropriated by Base Gagetown (at least including the cemetery). At one time it had its own train station,a store and a small Methodist church has sat abandoned on a nearby loop road for at least forty or fifty years. There is no longer anyone alive who can shed some light on what Clarendon used to be. As I have maternal roots there,I guess I'm just looking for general information and history.

Armagh / PERRY Armagh>Lorneville,NB-Sisters?
« on: Wednesday 08 March 23 23:05 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking information on the ancestry of three PERRY women b.in Ireland and immigrated to Lorneville,Saint John,N.B.,Canada in the early 1800s:

Agnes "Nancy" Perry b.1805 Armagh,d.April 6,1891 Lorneville;md.John McKNIGHT b.1802,d.June 5,1876 "" (also curious as to where the McKnights originated);

Jane (1811-1871);md.John STINSON/STEVENSON b.abt.1800,d.1874 "" (apparently came from Kilkeel,Co.Down);

Helen b.1802,d.April 27,1856 "";1st w/o Thomas GALBRAITH b.1798,d.December 25,1890 "". (Galbraiths are from Kilkeel but I do not yet have an indication of Thomas's parents;it's possible he could be a brother of John Galbraith who is a 5x g-grandfather).

I wonder if the three could be sisters, they all seem to be close enough in age. As of yet,Nancy is the only one for which I have found a place of birth (ref:New Brunswick Newspaper Vital Statistics,PANB).

2.Sophia (abt.1791-abt.1851);md.Nathan HICKS

Northamptonshire / Francis NEGUS and Mary ELDERKIN-Warmington
« on: Tuesday 04 May 21 21:32 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information on the ancestors of Francis NEGUS (d.1794) and Mary ELDERKIN (d.1781) md.October 5,1746 Warmington,Northamptonshire. The couple had four (confirmed) children:

i.Anne(bapt.1748-)
ii.William(bapt.1749/1750-);md.1781 Mary Broughton
iii.John(bapt.1753-);md.October 14,1783 (Polebrook) Dorothy Wright
iv.Francis(bapt.1756-)

It had been suggested to me on Ancestry that Francis could be s/o Gilbert NEGUS and Ann WARD but I have not yet seen evidence of this. Although Ann's name has appeared in future generations,I have not seen any sign of Gilbert's. I also have not seen evidence of Anne or Francis having married or producing children to correlate that claim.

Canada / Jeremiah Johnson-Lineage
« on: Thursday 09 July 20 13:39 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information on the parents of Jeremiah JOHNSON,who married Charlotte CHASE and lived in Gagetown,N.B. at the time of his children's births. Charlotte was the daughter of Loyalist Reuben CHASE;her sister Thankful married Tertullus DICKINSON. Jeremiah and Charlotte had (at least) four children, all baptized in Gagetown:

William bapt.1795;md.Rebecca DICKINSON (Tertullus and Thankful's daughter)
Salome bapt.1797,d.1840 Richmond,N.B.;md.John LONDON
Mary Psalter bapt.1799
Mahalah bapt.1801;md.Thomas PRITCHARD

I had thought, originally, that Jeremiah might be s/o Nathaniel Johnson (1726-1797) and Sarah Nichols of Fairfield,CT (their son Jeremiah was b.1756 according to the Barbour Collection;two older brothers were Joseph(1750-) and Solomon(1753-)),however I may be wrong in my thinking now.

William and Rebecca's Children:
(not in order):

Jane(1826-);md.? DAY
Harriet(1828-)
George
Roseanne(abt.1829-);md.John COLLICOTT
Johannah(d.1908)
John William(1836-1899);md.Ruth COLLICOTT (John's niece)
Mary Elizabeth(1840-1887);md.George COLLICOTT(Ruth's brother)
Amelia(abt.1850-)
Charles M.(abt.1853-)

The only (confirmed) child of Salome i've come across:

William Mansfield LONDON(1821-1840);d.age 19,the same month as his mother

It has been a bit frustrating to move forward on my maternal line, given the most common surname in the world and a real lack of resources in order to do so!

Canada / Children of Rachel Smith and Manley Steadman-Where Were They 1891?
« on: Tuesday 17 September 19 15:32 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on the children of Rachel SMITH(1847-1919)and Manley STEADMAN of New Brunswick:Everett Curry(b.1876-),Berdetta G.(1878-) and poss. Gertrude(1881-). I believe Gertrude may be:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/85797343/gertrude-thompson

I believe I also have marriage information from Familysearch for Gertrude as well;her parents are listed as Manley and Rachel but I need to make sure that this is the correct individual.

(Side note:I believe Manley is the same Manley C. Steadman who was put on trial for bigamy;Rachel remarried about 1882 to my g-g-grandfather,John NEGUS and had three children with him,one of which was my g-grandfather.)

In 1881 Rachel,Everett(5) and Berdetta(3) were living in the home of Rachel's parents in Salisbury;if Gertrude was also her child, she was likely born after the census was taken. It would also suggest that Manley left Rachel while she was still pregnant.

(upon reading:the Steadman trial took place in 1879;Provincial Archives website has details on the case. In Daniel F. Johnson's New Brunswick Newspaper Vital Statistics, there is only one Manley Steadman listed. Hmm..)

By 1891 Rachel had remarried to John and were living (poss.River Glade) with their children,Harriet (7) and Garfield (5) (their youngest daughter,Mabel, died 1887 only a year old).Everett and Berdetta,as well as the potential Gertrude, are not listed in the census, despite Everett,as the oldest, only being about fifteen at this point.

Everett later resided in the States, but I am mainly wondering what happened to them in those early years. Did they just take up residence with Manley after he and Rachel ended their marriage?Could they have lived with another family while their mother made a new one?(Or maybe Manley was not the one on trial and merely died?)

Long story short,I am seeking information on what happened to the two (three?) children of Rachel and Manley, what actually happened to Manley and the whereabouts of Berdetta.

(I also apologize for the convoluted way I wrote this.)
