New Zealand Completed Requests / Looking for a Leeston, NZ old Identity
« on: Saturday 09 March 19 03:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Looking to make contact with a local Identity that would have information on finding out who my grandfather was.
My Father was born in the Leeston area in 1935, he was from a local farming family. He was adopted by his grandparents. His biological father was taken to court for paternity but due to no way of proving it they were unable to confirm he was my father's dad. I have heard that there was a lot of talk around town so someone may no something.

Family History Beginners Board / New Zealand 1930's famiy court cases
« on: Thursday 21 February 19 03:24 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for my grandfathers decendants.

My grandmother fell pregnant in 1934-35 and her son (my father) was raised by his grandparents he was never legally adopted but by all intentions we all were led to believe that they were his parents until recently, he was fostered.  The father was never formally identified but I believe that a court family case was issued but was lost by the family.

So I would like to find anyone that can point me in the right direction to find the family court papers.  I am not sure whether it was public or not.  I do no that my grandmother was sent away to a salvation army place around blenheim way.  She was from the north Canterbury district in the South Island and the family were from Kingston or Leeston.

Any information for my search would be appreciated
 Wendy

Hi There

I am looking for information regarding obtaining adoption records.  My friend has only just found out that her now deceased mother was adopted and is looking to try and find out some family history.  She was born in 1935, so any addresses or information on how to go about the search would be most appreciated.

I am looking for information regarding an ancestor that our family has little information about.
The only record we have is a birth certificate for her son.
Her sons name was George Joseph Davis, he was born in New Zealand on the 7th January 1880. Birth record 1880/674.

I do have a copy of marriage record 12/1795 and on that it names his mother's maiden name as Floyd? And father as William Davis, he also says he is 27 which does not tie in with his 1880 DB.  I somehow think that he may have just put down half truths.

On the record on his birth certificate his mothers  name is Elizabeth Davis, born Lancaster, she was 30 at time of her sons birth, and place of birth birmingham, England she would have been born 1849/50 or close to that.  For the father she has put unknown.
So that is all she has on the birth record so we haven't got a lot to go by. She must have immigrated to NZ at some stage.  I haven't found any other records for her, eg.  immigration, marriage or death her in NZ, so not sure where to look from here.

The family talk was that something had happened either a death or murder and the family name was changed? Maybe someone on this site could possible she some light.
Thanks Wendy

Hi There, we are trying to find shipping details of family member to NZ from Aussie.

My husbands Great Grandmother came to Wellington, NZ from Australia approximately 1909, we believe she was a single lady and probably more than likely pregnant, her son was born in NZ January 1910, so we think she travelled to NZ to get away from the stigma of being an unmarried mother.  Her birth name was Fanny Wells (Gippsland, Australia), before she was married in 1912 she used Turner as a name as well. In NZ her name has changed to Frances and she has used Beatrice as a middle name on some documents.  She was born 1884 and probably in her earlly 20,s when she came to NZ.

Any help would be appreciated we are trying to fill in the blanks.

Regards Wendy

Hi everyone, I am researching my husbands ancestors and have established alot of unanswered questions but I have a query regarding my husbands grandfathers sister.  I have a birth record printout but am unable to locate her death record, so was wondering what happened to her.
She was born 15 April 1912
1912/10890
DAVIS Ellen Frances
Father George    Mother Frances Beatrice
She was born St Helens hospital in Wellington.
The birth was registered 19 June 1912

On the record it states her parents named on the certificate were married on the 1 May 1912.  I have checked and confirmed that is correct.

We were always told that there was a girl but she died young, but as I cant find a death record I wonder whether that is correct or not, maybe she was adopted out as we have recently found out that Frances the mother had an illegitimate child two years earlier which she did keep, and is my husbands deceased grandfather.
Can someone help me. Thanks Wendy

We are looking for our family heritage of our great grandmother, her name was Fanny WELLS, or Frances, she was born in 1884 in Victoria, Australia, and I think the place she was born was Warracknabeal.  We have absolutely nothing else to go on as she immigrated to New Zealand and so her history was never talked about.  I have researched through websites and have  come up with  more detail but need some sort of confirmation.  I think her mother was called  Mary WERREY and may have been born around 1856, Fanny,s father could have been William Henry Wells. She may have had a brother William Henry HARRIS WELLS  born  in 1869. I have searched marriage records for her parents but have found nothing.  She was very dark skinned with fine features so was biracial, when she came to NZ she had three boys they were quite dark but they never talked about their heritage so no one knows where the dark blood comes from.

I have also found a Mary Jane Werrey who was born the same time and married at 33 years old to Hans William Jurgen, they do have a family tree in ancestry.Com, so not sure whether that is an entirely different person.

If anyone could shed some light on this great family mystery it would be appreciated.
