Australia / CRAIGEN - did mother and son go to Oz from NZ?
« on: Monday 16 November 20 18:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

First time posting in the Australia forum.

I have been tracking a mother and son around NZ and last sighting of them is in a 1995 NZ electoral roll. The mother is not found in the NZ death index, suggesting she is either still alive  :o , or more likely died overseas. There is a suggestion the son died in QLD ca 2015 but this is unconfirmed.

Mother: Joan Gertrude CRAIGEN nee BROAD. Born 1912 in NZ. Married Kenneth Edwin CRAIGEN in UK in 1947. Kenneth died 1989 in NZ.
Son: R. K. CRAIGEN b.1953 in UK.

For all of his life in NZ, the son lived with his mother. If he went to Australia his mum most likely went with him.

I am not familiar at all with researching Australian records so would appreciate some suggestions or help with determining whether this wee family ended up across the ditch. My apologies if my request breaches any Australian privacy laws.

Cheers,
Sheryn

New Zealand Completed Requests / Elizabeth Mavis LAVELL - Taranaki
« on: Wednesday 27 May 20 06:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I am trying to find out if Elizabeth Mavis LAVELL b.15/5/1921 Kaponga (daughter of William LAVELL and Johanna PATERSON), could be the same person as Elizabeth Mavis MORRIS widow living in Alton 1946.

I have no idea who the Mr MORRIS is though.

Is this an impossible search?

Thank you.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Original birth records - Dannevirke 1918
« on: Wednesday 29 January 20 18:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.

Does anyone know where I could find the original birth records books for Dannevirke 1918?

I ask as the NZBDM has the wrong details on my grandmothers birth certificate. Date, place, and mother are right (father not recorded), but her name is spelled wrong and the gender is wrong as well. I suspect an early transcription error. DIA-NZBDM have said that it's not their problem, so I would like to find the original record to provide to them to get the register corrected.

I'm not sure of the relevance of this, but the printout NZBDM gave me was a typed one and not the handwritten one you normally get.

My mum remembers looking at the books at the council office in Dannevirke many years ago when investigating who her grandfather was and her recollection is that it was all correct there.

I rang the Dannevirke Service Centre of the Tararua District Council but they were strangely unhelpful and a tad unpleasant.

Any help or guidance would be most appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi. I am inquiring from New Zealand where I cannot find a copy of Mary Sue Smith's book "Davidson County, Tennessee Naturalization Records 1803-1906".

If someone on here has access to this book, would you mind looking something up in it for me.

Robert Bell
Arrival 1844-1849, Tennessee

I would love to know what it says on page 203 about Robert Bell.

Thanks in advance.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Help with 1893 Dunedin death please.
« on: Tuesday 27 June 17 09:55 BST (UK)  »
I have somehow ended up with an entry in my tree but I'm not sure how it got there.

It is the death of Ellen Roxborough (nee McLelland) in Dunedin, 29 Nov 1893, aged approx 38Y.
I cant find any proof of this death with either surname in NZBDM or Dunedin Cemetery search.

She was not married to Roxborough when she died, so may have had remarried.

Is there any way of searching Dunedin deaths by date without a surname?

New Zealand Completed Requests / What happened to Mary PLUMMER?
« on: Friday 02 June 17 10:02 BST (UK)  »
I have an ancestor that seems to have vanished into thin air.

Mary PLUMMER, born 28/9/1894 (NZBDM 1894/12666). Daughter of Edwin Charles and Elizabeth Ann PLUMMER.

Can't find a marriage or a death.

I did find a Mary PLUMMER on FamilySearch in 1902 working on the SS Tongariro outbound to England, but surely they didnt let 8 yr olds do that?!

Any help would be most appreciated.

I passed through Ward last year while seeking out buried relatives.
I found a relative in Ward Cemetery and was wondering if his headstone is still standing.

His was a rather large one at the back on the left, John BELL.

If anyone is passing by I would appreciate a heads up as to whether he has survived the earthquakes.

Cheers.

New Zealand Completed Requests / AncestryDNA postage from NZ?
« on: Wednesday 26 October 16 07:01 BST (UK)  »
Sorry if this has been covered off before. I did do a search but got too many results to sift through.

I have received my kit and went to PaperPlus to send it off, and they said I had to pay postage, and that the "postage paid" on the box only applied it if you are sending it from within Ireland.

Is this right?

New Zealand Completed Requests / Karori Cemetery: photo request
« on: Thursday 09 June 16 21:56 BST (UK)  »
Would some kind soul please take a photo of the following headstone (if there is one) for me?

It is in PUBLIC2, PLOT 333P
Name : Annie Elizabeth BELL

I've just recently gone around the South Island collecting headstone photos but unfortunately could not fit Wellington into my travels. This is the last photo I need for this branch of the family so would really appreciate a hand here.

Thanks in advance.
