This came from a box of tintypes from a relative who has since passed away. The people I have identified have all been from central Illinois. Any help (date of photo, his age) would be appreciated.

Not the greatest resolution, I know, but the original is in a box in a storage unit 300 miles away from its 85-year-old owner; this may be the best I get. I have not enhanced it in any way other than to crop it.

If I could get some help on guessing the age of these folks - and the time period, especially from that distinctive dress on the young mother - I think I can pin down who they were. I have lots of data on the ancestors of the owner of the photo.

Is it significant that I can see a sliver of the dress on the left side of the image?

Thank you for your help.

Would appreciate any help with discovering who this lady was. I have a lot of information on the ancestors of the person who owned the bible this came from, but not the bible itself - so this is the best quality photo I have.

Any insight as to her age and the year of the photo - or any other details you can see - is appreciated.

This photo was sent to me by a relative who didn't want to take it out of the album to be scanned. I THINK it was a tintype. I do not have it physically nor did I ever see it in person. I have chosen to not enhance it here - I figure you all probably have better tools for that.

I can tell you it was from a family in central Illinois, and the other photos in the album were all from around 1865-1885 or so. I'm hoping someone can clue me in to the man's age, the time period, and any other clues to his identity - including that masonic-looking emblem on what appears to be one of many layers of clothing under his chin.

Photo was found in an album in central Illinois. At least one photo in album was of a relative in Kansas. No idea who they might be but have data on while family, so any help with ages, date if photo, and any other identifying data would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hello again. Here from the same bible are two photos of possibly the same woman. First off, are they the same woman? And then what year might they have been taken, and what age is she in them? Trying to pin down who she was, in a family that narrows considerably at points.

Thanks again.

Hello, I could use some opinions on the age of the subject and the date this photo might have taken.

Like my earlier post, this was from a family bible that appeared in an antique store and disappeared, so this is the only photo I have. The perspective seems a little warped. Can't tell anything about the type of photo it is, other than it was inside a bible. I suspect the woman lived in Iowa.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, it's my first post.

The first photo below is the one I recently acquired from a kind soul who photographed a family bible at her resale shop before it was sold (no, I didn't get to buy it). I have a rough idea of the time frame and age of the subject, but please give me your learned opinions, so I might estimate a birthdate for this man.

Secondly, if he is of the time period that I think he is, he would logically be a grandfather or great-uncle of the person at the center of the vital statistics page of the bible. His name was Frank. Frank was 6 years old when the bible was published, according to the title page. Frank was also an only child so it's easier to use him as a starting point for the research. Sadly Frank had no surviving descendants; he had 8 children and but 1 grandchild, where his line stops.

So my question is, who is this man? I think he should be about 2 generations back from Frank. I have existing photos of two of Frank's great-uncles and have added those as the second and third photos here. The man in the hat is from Frank's maternal side, the man in the round frame is from Frank's paternal side. It seems my first, unknown man would be a brother of one of these two men (whether he's Frank's grandfather or great-uncle). But which?

I have more photos from one side of this family, but didn't want to prejudice your opinions by providing many on one side and one on the other.

Any help is appreciated.

Matt
