Kent / Greenwich Union Workhouse
« on: Monday 13 June 16 05:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi can anyone help with information as to the transfer of children from the work house to other institutions please.
I have a family of children that entered the work house with their mother but they were sent to Norwood (girls) and Orpington (the boys) I have done some research and believe that these places are R.C. orphanages, as their parents are still alive at this time would that be correct?
Are there any records for admission to these places, and does anyone know where they actually are?
This happened in 1917 as I have found the information on Ancestry for the admission and discharge of the children.   On one of the records it states that the mother Elizabeth Brown the mother is leaving 5 children and chargeable, does this imply she has to pay for their keep?
Any information would be appreciated ,
Dee

Can anyone help with information as to workhouse discharge records please.  I have found the admission of Elizabeth Brown with 7 children and then they are discharged but to different places, the boys it seems went to Orpington and the girls to Norwood.  I have tried a google search as well as ancestry & findmypast but can not get any further information, does anyone know if these were schools or different work houses for children,

Kent Lookup Requests / Information on Baprism records
« on: Tuesday 10 February 15 01:56 GMT (UK)  »
Was wondering if any one can clarify the information on the baptism records for me.  I have 2 baptism records which I have printed from ancestry and the other from find my past.  First one is for a George John Brown Feb 19/1905, has parents as Bertie William Alfred & elizabeth Sarah living at 36A armada Street,St Nicholas deptford. Second one for Bertie Wm alfred Mar 10/1907 same parents  St Pauls Deptford.  The second one has no address for the family, is it possible to get this somewhere?  I have been unable to find any of the family on the 1911 census even though I have tried countless methods and hours of my time, I know they are still in the area as other children are born to the couple and in fact a Dorothy S is born Sep qtr 1911, greenwich 1d/1917 which I believe is of the same family, but have not been able to find the baptism as yet, any help would be appreciated ,

Does anyone know how I can find information on this regiment? I have a john Aicken who was a member in1858 and transferred to the royal Marines in England, he then lived there married and had children.  I am hoping that some records have been kept from his time in the Militia as I was able to get information from Nat. Archives about his time in the Marines.  On his marriage certificate he names his father as Mathew Aicken, I also have a copy of the Attestation document for the Marines which states he Lived in the Parish of Bucknor and town of Broughshane antrim apart from this I have no other information on his life in Ireland,

Desperate to get a copy of the original transcript for the Baptism of Celia Eliza Frances Aitken baptised 19/1/1919.  The information was originally looked up for me by Little Nell - can anyone advise me as to where I might enquire.  Have tried various websites but can't seem to find out where the Registers for this parish are kept.

As I am going to be in Ireland later this year would like to try and find more information about my Aitken/Aicken family if possible. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to research records.  I have records for John in the Royal marines and details of his transfer from the Antrim rifle Militia in 1859.  Details - Parish of Bucknor, town: Broughshane, Antrim. He married Elizabeth Trodd in Woolwich 1869 and the certificate states his father as Matthew Aicken Labourer.

They originated from Nenagh & Roscrea according to the ship records,  we are not sure how they are rellated if at all.

Could any one give me information as to what parish Coleford would be included in. I am trying to find Eliza ?, born between 1810-13.  She married William Trodd about 1825 and had numerous children, the first one George around 1825, then James abt 1828. From the census records I have them living in Woolwich in 1841.  Not much to go on but any info much appreciated,
