Sligo / Rootsireland for County Sligo?
« on: Thursday 19 December 19 20:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am helping a friend with some Irish research - and I know nothing about Ireland, having no family from there.
If I am looking for a Protestant baptism between 1820-1830 in Sligo, would I have any luck on Rootsireland.ie? I would prefer to have an idea if there is likely to be records available before I pay for a sub! I notice there is no two week 'free trial' offer.
Is there broad coverage, or just from some areas... that kind of thing.
If anyone can help me, I would be grateful!

I am struggling to read the place name on this baptism in Tarves in 1794.

"Nov 13th - Alexr Norie in ??? had a son baptized named Charles".

I have looked through the OS maps for Tarves but can't find anything that looks like it fits. Hopefully someone more familiar with the area will recognize the word.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

Please help fix up this photo belonging to my mother in law.  I know she would appreciate it!  It's a wedding photo of Mr. & Mrs. Clayton. I don't know much about it other than the date (1916).

There's just a few rips/creases, otherwise it's not too bad.

Thank you if anyone can help! :)

Hello,

I have quite a few records I've collected on Scotland's People over the last few years.  I have listed the deaths I have info on and want to post this. What is the best way?  Should I divide by county and post in the appropriate forum?  or by surname on the 'Unwanted BMD' boards?

Thanks

Roxburghshire / Rev. Robert Hogg of Roxburgh
« on: Friday 20 May 16 18:41 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Does anyone know where I can get info on the Rev. Robert Hogg, born approx. 1710. He died in Roxburgh in 1787, I believe.  I think he married Mary Hume.  They had six children.

I can't find a birth/baptism for him.  Does anyone know who his parents were?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Please help GG Grandma get rid of her age spots! ;D

She was born in Argyllshire in 1851, died in Canada in 1919, and lived in Glasgow in between.  Quite a journey for a lady that was 'Deaf & Dumb'!

The family came to Canada in 1910, and this photo was taken in Glasgow, so obviously some time before then.

Any help appreciated!

Hello!

We don't know much about this woman except that it's likely my grandmother's paternal relative.

Probably from Roxburghshire or maybe Glasgow area...

But it would help if we had a date to fix on!

Any help please?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Hawick Lassies Picnic
« on: Wednesday 17 June 15 23:50 BST (UK)  »

Can anyone help me?  I would like to know exactly where this photo was taken - does anyone recognize the hill/scenery?  Also could it be dated using the ladies' costume?  I am guessing early 1900's, but I don't know who is in the photo.  It belonged to a relative that moved away from Hawick in 1906.

The back of the photo has a standard 'postcard' stamp with no address (must have been mailed in an envelope) and the handwriting says "a lot of bonnie Hawick lassies".

Maybe someone will recognize a relative!

Thanks in advance.

Dumfriesshire / John Johnston of Hoddam Parish
« on: Wednesday 17 June 15 20:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello! I am struggling to find a birth for an ancestor: John Johnston, I believe from Ecclefechan or somewhere nearby, born c. 1785.  He married Janet Lesley (I don't have a marriage date for them) and moved to Hawick at some point.  The family are in Hawick in 1841, 1851 and 1861.  I can't find a death for him either.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.
