Dunbartonshire / Richard Stewart, Pte., Highland Light Infantry
« on: Sunday 27 April 14 03:57 BST (UK)  »
My Uncle was Richard Stewart, born in Duntocher, a private in the HLO killed in action France
30 Oct 1915.
Richard was married to Alice Collins, and they had a son William, born 1915, Duntocher.  Alice remarried to James McNab in 1927, Duntocher.  I would dearly like to know what became of Richard's son William.  Does anyone recognise these names?

Cheshire / William McLure Murray & Annie Meaden - help needed!
« on: Saturday 22 February 14 01:18 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for anyone with any links or information about these two people.  William McLure Murray was born 1899, Scotland, and died Sep ¼ 1970, Birkenhead.  His wife Annie (nee Meaden)also died Sep ¼ 1970.  I have no idea why they both died in the same time frame, I can't find any online M.I.'s, for Birkenhead.

Cumberland / Surname interests in Dearham

BIGRIGG, JOHNSTON, SHERLOCK
I am researching the family of Thomas Allan Johnston and Mary Ann Bigrigg (d/o of Jonathan Bigrigg & Sarah Sherlock).  They lived in Main Street, Dearham during the 1901 Census.  I can find no further trail of Thomas Johnston, although I do have Mary during the 1911 Census, living in Ryton on Tyne with Joseph Maughan. Children born to Thomas & Mary now have the name Maughan and  subsequent children are all Johnston Maughan. I have come to the conclusion that either they weren't married OR that Joseph Maughan was, in fact, Thomas Johnston.
Is anyone familiar with this family?

Durham / Maughan family, Ryton on Tyne
« on: Friday 17 February 12 21:33 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone recognise/have any connection to this MAUGHAN family?
1911 Census details:
Greenside Court, Spen Lane, Ryton on Tyne
Joseph 50,
Mary 42,
James Helmer 21,
Joseph Albert 18,
John William 16,
Sarah Elizabeth 14,
Annie Doris 9,
Jonathan Horace 7,
Margaret Alice 5.

I know James Helmer's & Joseph Albert's details, and also that Annie Doris married a man named 'Bert' and emigrated to Australia, but I would love to be able to 'close the book' on the rest of the family.  Is there a spark of recognition out there?

Armed Forces / 74th Regiment
« on: Saturday 08 October 11 01:19 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help to fill in the gaps please?  My great grandfather, Robert Cuthbertson (born Scotland)was a soldier in the 74th Regiment, Limerick, Ireland, 1867, when his first child Mary Elizabeth, was born.  His 2nd child, my grandfather, Michael Joseph, was born in Malta in 1874.  I would just like a bit of background info - what was the purpose of being in  Ireland & Malta?  And - pardon my complete ignorance - was he in the Militia?

Cumberland / Still looking for Thomas Allan Johnston
« on: Saturday 08 October 11 00:56 BST (UK)  »
I am having no luck in finding what happened to Thomas Allan Johnston - does anyone have any connection?  He was born abt. 1861 - his age varies from marriage cert & census'.  He married Mary Ann Bigrigg 16th February 1885, Cockermouth, and his father is listed as John.  I have Thomas in the 1891 & 1901 Census' in Dearham.  The 1901 has him with Mary Ann and their 5 children.  Then Mary Ann shows up in the 1911 Census with Joseph Maughan in Ryton On Tyne and the children have now taken the name Maughan.  I do not believe they were married, although Mary Ann claims to have been married for the exact length of time she would have been married to Thomas, and later children now have the surname Johnston Maughan.  I can't find Thomas in the 1911 Census, nor can I find a death for him.  HELP!!

United States of America / Sertoma Club?
« on: Friday 28 May 10 03:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Would anyone be able to give me any links / details to the following clubs that appear in Alexander "Scotty" Cuthbertson's
obit please?
The Easton Sertoma Club gave him its Service to Mankind Award in 1959, and he was named a life member of Easton Eagles Aerie 111 in 1962. The Rice-Elmer and Lester Pfeffer posts of the American Legion both awarded him citations of honor for his charitable programs for veterans groups.

Lanarkshire / Andrew Cuthbertson & Susan Lynch
« on: Friday 28 May 10 03:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Are there any other researches looking for the family of Andrew Cuthbertson & Susan Lynch?
I'm particularly interested in finding their daughter Margaret - 9y.o. in the 1841 Census, Maybole, Ayr.
This family are in Lanark during the 1851/1861 Census - but not Margaret, who could be either married
or dead.
