Offaly (Kings) / Humphreys family- Lusmagh, Athlone and Newbridge
« on: Tuesday 02 January 07 19:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Can anyone help please.......Looking for birth of Robert John Humphreys, various spellings over the years, 1857 Lusmagh.  Father possibly Samuel Humphrys.
 Also help wanted with Robert John Humphreys marriage to Esther Ann Finnerly b. Belfast...  On 1881 cencus they were at Horfield Barracks England he was a bombardier aged 24y whilst Esther was aged 18 years.
He continued to serve in the Royal Artillery and between 1881 and 1891 he must have returned back to Ireland because John A. J. Humphreys b. abt 1883
Athlone, Florence A.A. Humphreys b. abt 1884, Athlone , Lillian Gertrude Humphreys b. abt 1884 Athlone, Ireland and son Thomas George Oliver Humphreys b. abt 1888 at Newbridge, Kildare were all born.  Presumably he was in barracks when children were born can anybody help as to which ones?
I have Robert and Esther on all cencuses and their death certs in England but I have nothing for them before 1881
I know that Samuel Humphreys, who I think is Roberts dad also served in the Royal Artillery as I have his Crimean war medal, but nothing else is known of him.  I am really struggling and would appreciate any help whatsoever even if it is just pointing me in the right direction.
Many thanks  ::) karlowe1959

« on: Friday 04 November 05 22:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, trying to trace the birth of Robert John Humphrys b.1957, b. Kings County, Ireland. I believe his father to be called Samuel Humphrys who served in the Royal Artillery.  I know Robert also served in the Royal Artillery and returned to Ireland where some of his children were born at Roscommon.  Any help would be appreciated, we intend visiting Ireland in the future and I am trying to cover as much groundwork as possible over the net before we go.  Thank you for any information.

I also have James Swindells b. abt 1789 died 1.5.1850 also buried Norbury Church ( I think this is John's son) anything for 1841 please? (again Brinnington shown at time of death)
James wife.... Martha b. abt 1800 died 1853/55  buried Norbury Church....church register shows address Prince Street, Brinnington.....any help please re 1841 and 1851 cencus.
I then have James Swindells b. 14.2.1819  died 7.4.80 (James and Marthas son) married to Alice Swindells b.11.2.1826 d. 31.12.1900 both again buried in Norbury Church and in 1871 they were living at 1 Princess Street, Portwood. He was shown as a coal dealer born in Poynton. Lookups required please for previous cencus please.
Sorry it sounds like a shopping list but I've now got my teeth into this after visiting Norbury and finding that the family grave contains 8 persons.  Unfortunately the stone had grassed over but I'm a little bit nearer.  I intend to revistit the stockport area to continue my research but finally........
one last request to locals in the area does Prince street brinnington still exist and Princess street stockport.
Thank you so much for any information. :)
