Henry WATSON age 39 years as stated on his son's Gordon St.Clare Watson who was born Sale Victoria 1913. I'm having trouble trying to find anything about him before that birth, He states he was Married to Frances Roundtree in New Zealand in 1906.He may have been Henry George or George Henry. Can't find an entry for him arriving in Australia. I am a loss to find anything about him as Watson is a very common name.

Staffordshire / Livey Thornton
« on: Saturday 14 December 19 04:35 GMT (UK)  »
Livey born Dec1/4 1901 to James Thornton and Elizabeth Buxton. Cant find another mention of her excepting her birth. James is living with his Sister Elizabeth Hall  0n 1901 census at Hanley On Stoke, and states he is single, on the 1911 census he is still with his sister and states he has been  married for 18 years and one child, I also think his birth age is out by 10 years on 1911 census..
So my question is. . where is Elizabeth and Livey after the birth.
Hoping some one may be able to shed some light on this, I would be most grateful

Regards
Carol

On 1891 census both Marcus Henry Coleman and William James Thornton are with Dennis and Ann Nelson.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Dakeyne Street Lads' Club
« on: Thursday 19 November 15 04:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping someone can shed some light on this query for me!
I have a reference letter from Dakeyne Street Lads Club for my grandfather William J.C. Thornton dated 24 June 1913. He arrived in Australia in Sept. 1913 aboard the S.S.Port Lincoln. I believe from other bits of information I have he came out as a "British Lad". I have tried to find information regarding a connection between Australia and the Dakeyne Street Lads Club unfortunately I can only find the connection with the farm in Nova Scotia. Would someone have any idea where I could find more or any information about a connection with Australia. I have a newspaper article about The King wishing these boys (300 of them) success from "The Argus" Melbourne 4 Aug. 1913 newspaper
Thanks in advance

« on: Saturday 17 November 12 06:11 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone  give me advice on where to find school appointments in late 1880's and early 1890's. My Great grandmother Annie Gee,was an assistant school mistress on the 1891 census before her marriage to William James Thornton in 1892. Her address in 1891 census is 13 Carlton Rd.
My Grandfather William John Cecil Thornton born 1894 would have also attended school, his address in 1901 was Pees Hill Rd.(or perhaps Lees Hill Rd). was just wondering does anyone know if I could get school records.
Thanking you

Have been trying to find Joseph G. Luscomb/Luscombe  on 1891 with his family Ellen (wife) William J. His son and perhaps Alfred W. (son) who may have already come to Australia. Have been able to follow this family through on all other census's including 1901 census. In 1901 They are at Fulham. (RG13/60/125/55. In 1881 they are at Battersea (RG11/655/94/26) Joseph is carpenter on 1881 on 1901 census he his railway carpenter.I am trying to find when Alfred came to Australia but as yet can't find a date or ship. Have searched census on two paid sites without any luck for them on 1891 census. My son in law is a descendant of Alfred and both him and my daughter have just become interested in family history so hoping to keep their interest going by giving a little help. I would be most grateful for any help given.

Lancashire / McNanley: What to do next!
« on: Friday 21 August 09 12:33 BST (UK)  »
I have the marriage certificate for my gg grandparents Felix McNanley&Sarah Watson, they married in Manchester in 1855. Felix is a shoemaker,Thomas McNanley Felix's father is a clerk. Sarah's father William Watson is a clothes dealer this info. is from their marriage certificate. In 1854 Felix and Sarah are witnesses to Mary McNanley and William Ward's marriage (Felix being Mary's brother)
On the 1871 census their name has been transcribed as McHawley They are living at Mount Street,Great Manchester with their six children all who have been born in Manchester. Felix states he is born in Ireland ( RG10/4039/23/39 ) Felix is dec. 1877 (freebmd). Sarah and children are on 1881 census.  Have tried to find them on 1851 and 1861 census without success realizing of course Felix may not have been in England when the 1851 census was taken. Have tried searhing under various names and have checked using just Felix's name with a wife Sarah and various other ways. Have also checked 1861 census for Ann who was 14yrs. in 1871 and Allis (Alice) who was 12yrs. in 1871 census.  Sarah and family came to Australia after 1881 census and before 1884, when my g. grandmother married Charles Elphick.
I am hoping some one may be able to give me some idea on how I may find where they are earlier than 1871.
