Antrim / Taggart
« on: Thursday 28 January 16 15:13 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on a George Taggart b abt 1852 in Ireland, farmer who married Mary Ann Wallace they had one daughter that I know of, Mary Ellen Taggart b 1870 in Ireland she in turn married Alexander Miller and they had two daughters born in Ireland, Kathleen Taggart Miller b 1896 and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Miller b 1898 and died 1950 in Kilsyth Stirlingshire the third daughter Jenny Miller was born in Kilsyth in 1910

George Taggart b abt 1852 may have had a sister Mary Ann Taggart b abt 1848 who married George McIntyre farmer in Antrim who had a daughter Kathleen McIntyre b 1867 in Co Antrim this family may have emigrated to Canada as Kathleen McIntyre, my grandmother married my grandfather in Halifax Nova Scotia in 1893 while he was serving with The Royal Engineers

If anyone has any information about all or any of these people I would be delighted to hear from them
Thank you

Kildare / Doyle Family
« on: Saturday 05 September 15 15:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi I have a John Doyle b abt 1842 in Dublin who was living with his parents Michael Doyle and Catherine on the 1861 census in Margam Glamorgan South Wales, Michael Doyle and Catherine gave their place of birth as Kildare Ireland, I cannot find anymore about the parents thereafter and think they may have returned to Ireland
John Doyle however married Frances Norah Finnegan in 1869 in Gosport Hampshire and they had 9 children quite a few in different locations as John Doyle was in the Army, on his son's MC he was described as Quartermaster Sergeant in the 13th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry although I am not sure how accurate that is
By 1878 he was living in Kilsyth Stirlingshire Scotland but was still an Instructor in the Army and by 1901 he was a clerk in a Quarry
Why I am so interested is that my mother before she married used to come from Newbridge Co Kildare to visit relations in Kilsyth who were Millers but she also talked about Arthur Doyle who was a descendant of the above John Doyle
My mother's father was Scottish but her mother was Irish and after her father retired from the Army they settled in Newbridge and I know that both my grandfather and g grandfather who was also in the Army had connections to the Curragh Camp and my mother went to school there
I am hoping that this might jog some memories

Canada / Kate McIntyre
« on: Sunday 09 August 15 15:50 BST (UK)  »
Kate McIntyre was my grandmother on the 1911 census of Ireland she said she was born in Co Antrim in Abt 1867 her parents were George McIntyre farmer and Mary Ann found on her MC, she married my grandfather Alexander Cockburn in Halifax Nova Scotia in 1893 which makes me think that her father and mother may have emigratated from Ireland to Canada sometime after her birth
I have searched all the Canadian censuses but have not had any success so far.

So I am hoping that this information might find somebody that knows something about this or can suggest where I look next

Thank you

Stirlingshire / Parkburn House Kilsyth
« on: Sunday 02 August 15 11:44 BST (UK)  »
I have read on this site that Parkburn House was owned by Crighton Stevenson, I can remember my mother talking about both Parkburn House and Chrighton Stevenson, other than that I know that we used to visit Harry Stevenson and his wife Kathleen Stevenson in Kilsyth around the 1940s, Kathleen was my mother's cousin and Harry Stevenson was Chrighton Stevenson's brother
Kathleen was Kathleen Taggart Miller before she married she had a sister Jenny Miller who married Peter Linn St Clair the third sister Minnie married and lived in Kelvin Way in Kilsyth but I cannot remember her married name, Kathleen, Minnie were both born in Ireland Jenny in Kilsyth and their parents were Alexander Miller and Mary Ellen Taggart both from Ireland, Mary Ellen Taggart's parents were George Taggart and Mary Ann Wallace according to her DC
I am trying to find the connection between my mother's family and the the Millers as my grandmother was also born in Ireland(Co Antrim) her maiden name was Kate McIntyre
I am hoping that may trigger some memories that could help

Antrim / Kathleen McIntyre b abt 1867 Co Antrim
« on: Thursday 23 July 15 14:48 BST (UK)  »
Kathleen McIntyre was my grandmother she was born abt 1867 in Co Antrim and died 1943 in Newbridge Co Kildare she married my grandfather Alexander Cockburn who was in the Royal Engineers in Halifax Nova Scotia in 1896
I have never been able to find out any more about her, on the 1911 Ireland census she states where she was born and that she was Roman Catholic
The fact that she was married in Nova Scotia makes me think that perhaps her father was also in the Army or that her family had emigrated to Canada
The only other clues I have, there were relations of my grandmother living in Kilsyth Stirlingshire Scotland by the name of Alexander Miller who was married to Mary Ellen Taggart and Mary Ellen Taggart's parents were George Taggart and Mary Ann Wallace I have searched for all of these people in Ireland without any success
I am hoping that someone may be able to help, I would be most grateful
