Cornwall / Parents of Jenifer Musgrove; Bodmin (Completed)
« on: Saturday 12 June 21 13:46 BST (UK)  »
Greetings RootsChatters,

What I know:
Jenifer (Jenefer/Janifer/Jenny) Musgrove (Misgrove/Misgreave) married William Growden in Lanivet, Cornwall, 9 May 1819.
They had son Thomas, born Bodmin, 1820; son Henry, born Bodmin, 1821; daughter Elizabeth Ann, born Bodmin, 1825.  They then had 2 more daughters in London before immigrating on the Osprey to Australia is 1849.

What I don’t know:
For years now I have had Jenifer’s parents recorded as Richard Musgrove and Catharine Bennet (and I don’t even remember why), however I just found William Growden and Jenifer Musgrove’s daughter Emily’s baptism certificate from St Pancras, Middlesex (Aug 1836) and it has her parents as William Growden and Janifer his wife, who was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Musgrove.
Is there any records for a Thomas Musgrove and Margaret (___) marrying or a baptism certificate for Jenifer? Jenifer would have been born about 1795 based on her migration age.
The other oddity is that William and Jenifer’s other daughter born in London is Jane Arthur. It seems that maternal surnames feature occasionally as middle names in the next generation, so is there some link with a surname of Arthur?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Australia / Parents of Ellen HUGHES, Tasmania
« on: Thursday 02 June 16 13:09 BST (UK)  »
I've traced back to Ellen HUGHES, Born 27 Dec 1862 in the Port Sorell region of Tasmania. Father - Richard Hughes, Farmer. Mother - Mary Hughes, formerly Ring. Residence: Stots Plains. (Found on LINCTAS)

I have seen the records where a Richard Hughes married Mary Anne Gee 17 April 1869 and they had some 6 children. Richard was 31 years at his marriage so makes his approximate date of birth 1838 - if this is Ellen's father he was approx 24yrs at the time of her birth.

I cannot find any records for a Mary Ring (I tried King too with no luck but it looks more like the other R's written so I'm pretty sure it's Ring).

I also cannot confirm how Ellen's father Richard came to Australia or who his parents are.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Renfrewshire / Duncan MALCOLM of Paisley
« on: Wednesday 11 November 15 02:11 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone would be able to search any records for Duncan MALCOLM. I believe he was born approx 1773 in Renfrewshire; he married Elizabeth ALLISON in 1790 at High Church Paisley, and had a son Duncan Allison MALCOLM who was born 1813.

I have no other records of relatives (parents, siblings or children) and I don't know when he died.

Many thanks.

Australia / Parents of William Flanner
« on: Tuesday 11 August 15 08:06 BST (UK)  »
William (Ripon) Flanner married Hannah Howard 9th Sep 1884 in Sandhurst Victoria, both aged 33.
The marriage certificate states that William was born "At Sea" and his parents are George Flanner and Jane X.
The only listings I can find for George Flanner is a convict record departing England 1831 arriving Port Jackson 1831 aboard the Georgiana, and a George Flanner (Jr?) who was accidentally shot and killed in 1888 at the age of 30 (possibly a brother).
On William's death extract from 1923 it states his mother was Eliza Green.  Not sure how accurate that is (I don't have the certificate just info from the Vic BDM search).
If the George Flanner convict is his father then he didn't have William until he was 40 yrs old, and William being born "At Sea" seems unlikely if they were already in Australia.

Would anyone please be able to inform me if there is any likelihood of some sort of birth record for William that would tell me exactly who his parents are?

Clare / Augustus O'LOUGHLIN - Any records
« on: Saturday 08 August 15 05:27 BST (UK)  »
After getting a copy of my 2x great-grand parents marriage certificate (married in Australia, 1863) it states that Honora (Hanora/Nora/Norah) O'Loughlin was born in Co Clare Ireland (no place name) to parents Augustus O'LOUGHLIN and Anne DRONY (could be DRONEY) and she was 18 at the time of marriage, so was born approx. 1845. It is written across the bottom of the marriage certificate that the bride's parents consented to the marriage so I assume they were both alive in 1863, although there is a possibility that Augustus died and Anne then married Austin HARKIN, as on some documents Honora is referred to as HARKIN.
I have tried Googling the name Augustus O'LOUGHLIN but have come up with nothing.
Would someone please be able to see if they can find any parish records or census records for this family? Or point me in the right direction to find out.
Thank you.

Australia / Michael CROWLEY - immigrated from Ireland?
« on: Monday 03 August 15 00:19 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace some information on my 2x great grandfather, Michael CROWLEY.
I have no concrete information (no family stories or records) so what information I have is just trying to piece bits together.
I found a listing of immigration for Michael Crowley from Liverpool, 1858 to NSW on board the Golconda. Assisted passage, sponsored by Margaret Pursell. Occupation: labourer. Listed as being able to read and write. No family in Australia.
Also, a death listing from 28 Nov 1912 East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Eye and Ear Hospital; Occupation:Farmer of Pound Creek, 75yrs old.
I think he married here in Australia, Honora/Nora/Norah O'LOUGHLIN (I have no concrete records for her either) and I believe they had 12 children. On each of the childrens' birth records her name is slightly different, and on one, her surname is listed as HARKINS.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to find where Michael originated/was born (I assume Ireland) and if there is a marriage record for Michael and Nora? Any other information would be appreciated too (i.e. census or employment), or point me in the right direction of where to find the information.
Thanks.
