« on: Monday 04 January 16 16:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for some basic biographical information on a Mrs Leslie-Jones, as she was always listed in contemporary sources such as 'The Times of India' newspaper. She won the women's singles title at the Punjab Lawn Tennis Championships in Lahore in 1910.

I would particularly like to find her first name(s) and maiden name.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

I am looking for some basic biographical information on the following men, who were resident in British India in the period circa 1890-1910. Some of them might have been employees in the British Indian Civil Service.

I have looked through the Indian Army & Civil Service Lists and searched ancestry.com quite thoroughly for information on them, but with little success.

Captain de Courcy

J.C. Gloster
--

Captain Longfield, 9th Regiment
--

R.D. O'Brien

I'm just looking for a date and place of birth (and death) for each of them.

Any help would be appreciated.

US Lookup Requests / Daisy Eaton and Louise Eaton of Tacoma
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 17:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Could anyone help with the identification of two people whom I'm sure were sisters and were living in Tacoma in Washington state circa 1895? Their first names were Daisy and Louise. Although I've been able to find some Daisy Eatons and some Louise Eatons in the American censii, I haven't been able to find the two women in the same census return. They were probably both in their early twenties in 1895.

Any help in identifying them would be appreciated.

Hello,

Could anyone possibly help with some basic biographical information on two women who were living in the Pacific Northwestern states circa 1915? I have trawled the censuses and other online sources, including newspapers, for information on both women, but without success.

Mrs W.J. Northrup was probably living in Portland, Oregon, in 1915. That is not to say that she had been born there.

Mrs R.E. Bragdon was a resident of Seattle in 1915, and might have been born there.

Both women are very well hidden by their husband's names. Any help on discovering their true identities would be much appreciated.

Australia / The tennis playing Dransfield sisters of New South Wales (?)
« on: Wednesday 23 September 15 14:30 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone help with some biographical information on three sisters who took part in some Australian lawn tennis tournaments, mainly the New South Wales Championships, circa 1890-1900. They are very difficult to track down because contemporary sources only ever referred to them as Miss M. Dransfield, Miss P. Dransfield and Miss S. Dransfield. They might have been immigrants from the British Isles.

I note that this website lists a Mary Dransfield of the winner of the women's singles title at the Sydney tournament in 1894: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_International However, I don't know the source for that first name.

Any help in identifying these three women would be much appreciated.

South Africa / The English-born (?) Grant family (late 19th/early 20th century)
« on: Thursday 17 September 15 19:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Could anyone help with any biographical information on the elusive Grant family who were living in South Africa in the late 19th/early 20th century? This family appears to have included the champion tennis players, namely Mabel, Beatrice and Jack Grant. However, they are extremely hard to track down. They might have emigrated to South Africa from England.

I would be grateful for any information anyone could provide on the aforementioned trio and their parents and siblings (there appears to have been more than three children in the family).

Kind regards,

J.

Limerick / The Lysaghts of Limerick
« on: Wednesday 29 July 15 18:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have recently been searching for some info on an early Irish family, some of whose members appear to have been living in County Limerick circa 1880. The family name is Lysaght and, unfortunately, there were a lot of them living in south-west Ireland in the latter half of the nineteenth century.

So far I have only managed to find the first name of two members of the branch of the family I'm interested in – Edward Lysaght and his brother William, sometimes listed as "W.C. Lysaght". The brothers had at least one sister, a "Miss M. Lysaght".

I would be grateful for any help in tracking down any information on the above three members of this particular Lysaght family.

Thanks,

J.
