Hi folks,

This is a photo of my gran, Elsie Underwood, all dressed up and going ?  - I wish we knew.

She has become a bit crumpled over the years, so I would appreciate if someone could give her a tidy up, please, just iron out the creases and marks would be wonderful.

Technical Help / Cannot access internet using laptop
« on: Wednesday 18 November 15 09:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hello folks,
I wonder if there is anyone who can throw some light onto what is happening with my laptop, before I have to trot off to the repair shop.

The last time I used it was 10 October, when I also installed all the latest updates and it was working fine.  The next time I tried to use it was on 12 Nov and I couldn't install any updates or connect to the internet.  There were 32 updates to be installed and after several attempts, it eventually installed one and gave the message "unable to install updates" for the other 31.  I thought it was because there was just too much traffic, so left it.

This week I have tried each day for the last 3 days, but have not been able to update any of the 31 waiting updates, or even connect to the internet.  I keep getting the timed out message.  The error message on the updates is 80072EE2 which I gather also means timed out.

I've tried the troubleshoot Windows updates and that seemed to work at first, as it told me it had fixed 2 issues.  But - the result was that it now tells there are no updates awaiting, that I have never searched for updates and never installed any!

I have searched the MS help site, and their community forums but can't find anything that helps because this is not just a download problem, it's the apparent lack of internet access.  I even tried using a wired connection and that also didn't work.   My internet connection is ok for this computer, my desktop, so I don't think it can be the router or anything to do with the ISP.

Has anyone met this sort of thing before, or have any clue to what might be the problem, or whether something has died in the laptop.   I wouldn't be surprised because it's only just over a year old, and during the first year it died twice.  The knownowts did nothing to investigate or repair the fault; they just did a refresh both times, resulting in all my programmes, printer, security, everything being wiped off!!  >:(

Sorry to say I've tried to get my head round computers but I'm still a complete technophobe.

The laptop is:-
Acer V 15 Touch
Intel core i5
NVIDIA GeForce 840M
8GB DDR3L memory
1000GB HDD

Browser:  Firefox  (also use IE occasionally) - both unable to connect to internet
OS:  Win. 8.1
AVG security
Malwarebytes

Any advice will be greatly appreciated
