Family History Beginners Board / AP VOYAGE?
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 19:17 BST (UK)  »
researchinf george jeffery born 1817 midlothian
in the 1841 census i think ive found him but his occupation reads Ap voyage to Mairoteno
the census address is St Anthony place , Leith Midlothian and theres a mixture of people there some saying on voyage to various places but others Ap voyage
i believe George was later a merchant seaman so im assuming this is some sort of boarding house but does Ap mean hes applied to go or that hes doing an apprenticeship ? and where on earth is Mairoteno?or is it a ships name ?
thanks in advance for any help

Family History Beginners Board / alumni dublinenses help please
« on: Friday 18 September 15 15:10 BST (UK)  »
im researching benjamin kirchner in ireland and found this on alumni dublinenses -
Kirchner, Benjamin Simon,siz. (Mr Oliver miller) June 5 1798, aged 17;s. of Simon, coriarius;b. Dublin. sch1800 B.A.aest.1802
so ive worked out hes 17 attending trinity college dublin 1798 to 1802 son of Simon born Dublin
what does siz. mean
who is mr oliver miller
what is coriarius
does B.a. aest 1802 mean bachelor of arts

does any of this tie in with a profession of cabinet maker during the 1830s
does it tie in with Benjamin Kirchner born 16/07/1780 getting accepted for an appointment as a British India office asst surgeon in 1809
sorry if this is a dumb question !

Ireland / stuck ....any help appreciated louisa Kirchner / kirchener / kitchener
« on: Tuesday 15 September 15 18:01 BST (UK)  »
im well and truly stuck  >:(
my gg grandmother was born  louisa Kirchner / kirchener / kitchener / kischener in limerick, ireland
ive got her wedding certificate which shows her fathers name as benjamin
ive found her in all the censuses and the death record but cant find her birth anywhere and cant find her fathers either
ive tried different sites and the Irish parish records and the applotments and the Griffiths list to no avail
if i send off for a copy of her death certificate how much detail will be on it in 1901 - will there be birth and parents details or does it depend on the coroner or who reported the death
thanks for any help
