Bedfordshire / Lightwood from Biddenham / Clapham
« on: Wednesday 29 April 20 13:13 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,

I am currently researching the Lightwood family from Biddenham, of which at a certain point one family ups and moves to Clapham. I'm now trying to find out what happened to them after Clapham. Did they die/marry there (can't find any proof yet)? Did they move back to Biddenham? Did the family just die out when none of the children married?

This is what I already know:
John Lightwood (labourer, later thatcher), baptised 31 Aug 1701, most likely the 6th of 9 children of John Lightwood and his wife Elizabeth (older siblings Richard, Mary, Judith, Jane, Sarah, younger brothers William, Francis, Edward).
John Jr was first married first to a lady called Sarah (maiden name unknown, no marriage found), who dies 2 March 1729. Their children were Richard (1724), Mary (1726-1730) and possibly William (+1737).
He then goes on to marry Sarah Johnson in 1735, and with her he has first child Mary (1735). These two families were both Biddenham.
Then the family up and move to Clapham, where another five children were born: Sarah (1737), Lucy (1738, who strangely enough is buried back in Biddenham in 1739), William (1740), John 1743 and Francis (1745, buried in Oakley later in 1745). William may have died in Clapham (buried Oakley) in 1761.

After that I find no trace of this family, so if there's anyone researching this family, could you please share your findings with me, or help me look at some records? I live on the continent so all I can research is online. I do have access to ancestry and familysearch, not findmypast.

There is another Lightwood family in Biddenham in the 1780s and 90s, when John and Judith Lightwood have their children baptised. But there seems to be a gap of at least a whole generation in between these families.

Any help is most welcome!
Thanks in advance  :)

Lexi.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / John Hoar/Hoare Alverstoke/Gosport
« on: Thursday 12 December 19 09:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I'm looking for more information on John Hoare in the Alverstoke/Gosport area. There's two generations I'm able to find there, and then the line stops. Any information before that would be much appreciated.

There's the couple John Hoare x Mary Jurd (they marry in Fareham in 1789) and their children, all but one baptised in the non-conformist denomination (I'm guessing they were methodists?). The children were: John (1790), Robert (1792), Mary (1794 and 1796), Elisabeth (1798) and John (1801, baptised Jan 1802), and then there's Rebecca (1809) who was the only one baptised in the CofE.

I'm pretty sure (thought not 100%) that John Hoare was himself from Alverstoke too, and that he was the son of another John Hoar (sometimes spelled without the e at the end) x Sarah Courtnell (married 1768 in Alverstoke). Their children were: John (1768), Sarah (1770, Gosport), Polly (1772), Elisabeth (1775) and William (1777).

Is there anyone here that can help me figure out a) whether indeed John Hoare senior was the father of John Hoare junior, and b) where John Hoare senior was from before Alverstoke? Hopefully the answers will lead to a next generation...

Thanks heaps in advance!
Gr Lexi.

Huntingdonshire / Lightfoot from Great Raveley
« on: Wednesday 30 August 17 15:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
Is there anyone here that can help me find the children and possibly grandchildren for John Lightfoot (b 1777) and Elizabeth West (b abt 1779). They were both from Bedfordshire but seem to have moved to Huntingdonshire some time after their marriage (1803 in Bromham, Bedfordshire).
The 1841 census gives the couple aged about 60, living in Great Raveley. Two more Lightfoot families are living in that town: William Lightfoot and his wife Mary, with children John, Rachel and Sarah - and Thomas Lightfoot and his wife Mary, with children James and Frederick.
Could anyone provide me with the birth/baptism dates of William and Thomas, as well as possible siblings (so other children of John and Elizabeth), and those of the grandchildren?
Thanks very much in advance!

Lexi.

Bedfordshire / Henry Crutchley/Crouchley Sharnbrook
« on: Wednesday 23 August 17 13:47 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,
I could really do with some eye-opener about Henry Crutchley (also called Crouchly sometimes)...
He marries Mary Smith (yay, great name, the most unfindable person in my tree) in Bedford on 5 Sep 1763. Their children are all baptised in Sharnbrook: Henry 1764, John 1767, John 1768, Jenny 1769, Joseph 1772 and Mary 1778. Henry then marries again in Bedford on 27 Aug 1786 to Ann Pearson, with whom he then has Joseph Pearson in 1787, also in Sharnbrook.
I have absolutely no idea where Henry was from, he is a dead end in my family tree. It would seem logical that Henry was from Sharnbrook, as he keeps having his children bapised there, though he goes to Bedford to find wives  ;)

<Oh, he seems to die in Bedford in January of 1827.> wrong info

Any help is much appreciated!

Lexi.

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / Craddock-Lightfoot marriage Clapham 1803
« on: Monday 21 August 17 14:02 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,
I was hoping someone could help me find the origins of Thomas Craddock who marries Ann(e) Lightfoot in Clapham on 11 April 1803? I know who the parents (and siblings) are of Ann(e) Lightfoot, who was baptised in Clapham in 1782, but I have no idea who this Thomas Craddock is. And since I have a whole bunch of Craddocks from Bedfordshire/Northamptonshire in my family tree, wouldn't it be great to see if I can find his family somewhere too?
So if anyone can help me with the parents and/or baptism (date/location) of Thomas Craddock, I'd be very grateful!
Thank you very much in advance!
Regards, Lexi.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Camage / Camidge early members (pre-1750)
« on: Saturday 12 August 17 14:02 BST (UK)  »
Dear all,
While singing in York Minster I came across the paintings of the four Camidge generations who were organists there in the 18th and 19th century (John, his son Matthew, Matthew's son John and John jr's son Thomas Simpson). I also found a Charles Edward Camidge once when researching something else, who was bishop of Bathurst, Australia, in the 1890s.
Of course, being a nosey parker, I wanted to know whether these were related (which they are: Charles Edward was the son of Matthew's younger son Charles Joseph), but as usual I've been taking the research way too far. I am now stuck in 1689 and have another branch that I can't seem to link to the others.

In one line I have Robert, baptised in St Mary's Bishophill Junior (York) in 1689 by his parents Robert Camage and Ann. He has several siblings: George 1686, Ellin 1692, Thomas 1696, Leonard 1700 and Eleanor 1710.

In another line I also have another Robert, baptised in Bishopthorpe in 1733 by his parents John Camage and Jane. His siblings are Daniel 1729, Joseph 1731, Isaac 1736 and James 1739.

I was somehow hoping someone knew whether these lines could be linked up somewhere, or that someone at least has any information on John and Jane, the latter of the two lines. I'm stuck there, you see.

Hope anyone can help, thanks a lot!!!
Regards,
Lexi.

Cambridgeshire / Ebenezer HAYLES & parents
« on: Tuesday 22 November 16 08:57 GMT (UK)  »
Dear all,
I'd be extremely grateful if anyone could help me find the parents for Ebenezer Hayles, who marries Maria/Mary/Merah Barnett/Bennet in Fowlmere on 23 Oct 1774. Their children are born/baptised in Whittlesford, so I'm guessing Ebenezer and Maria were from that area too? There is a possibility that they were baptists or something else non-conformist.
Any help is welcome!
Thanks!

Cambridgeshire / William SCOTT family - Ickleton
« on: Friday 18 November 16 17:07 GMT (UK)  »
Dear all,
My 6th great-grandfather was William Scott, the son of Clement Scott and Mary Jackson. Of him I have found quite a lot of information, but there is the matter of William's wife (and children) that is confusing me.

The thing is this: William marries in Ickleton on the 18th of October 1780, his spouse is called Sarah Richardson. Together they have several children: Clement '81, John '83, Richardson '84, Sarah '85, Richardson '87, William '89, Anne '91 and Sophia '93.
Yet *also* baptised in Icketon, seemingly children of the same father but now with a mother called Sarah Knott, there's Mary '95 and Richard '97.

How does this work then??!! Did Sarah Richardson die and did William remarry Sarah Knott? Yet I cannot find evidence of either a death or a remarriage. Or are Sarah Richardson and Sarah Knott perhaps actually the same woman?

Then there is another Sarah Richardson in Ickleton, who marries Richard Knott in 1758 in that same place. Their children are Richardson '59, Everit '60, Abraham '62, Mary '64, Sophia '79 and Abraham '81.

Now, I'm pretty sure these two families are somehow related, but I can't fathom how. So any info would be appreciated. And any birth/baptism information on either Sarah Richardson or Sarah Knott and their parents would be good too!

Thanks for any help!
Regards,
Lexi.

Ireland / JORDAN family Ireland
« on: Tuesday 01 November 16 09:02 GMT (UK)  »
Dear all,
I'm hoping someone can help me find information on my g-g-g-g-grandmother, Jane Jordan. I have found some information on her already, mainly from UK censuses (she married into an English family and lived in Middlesex), but I am now looking for her birth or baptism, as well as information on her parents. The sparse bits I have on her are somewhat confusing.

This is what I already found on her:
* 12 Jun 1853 she marries Walter Scott in St Giles without Cripplegate, London. On the marriage record it states that her father is called Edward Jordan.
* the 1861 census states that she was born in Ireland, and she is 30 years old then (the surname is mis-transcribed as Kot, not Scott).
* the 1871 census states that she was born in Ballingarry/Ballingany, Ireland and she is 41 years old.
* the 1881 census states that she was born in Ireland - Dublin, she is 53 years old.
* the 1891 census states that she was born in Ireland and she is 63 years old.

I have not yet found her (definite) death registration, but as neither she nor her husband Walter are to be found in the 1901 census I guess they both died between 1891 and 1901. Unless they went to South Africa, following their daughter Ellen and her husband.

Husband Walter Scott seems to have been quite young when he married, as he is about 8 to 10 years younger than his wife and was, based on the census info, probably about 18 when their first child was born.
I have so far found 4 children for them: Walter (abt 1855), Ellen (abt 1858), Clement (abt 1860) and Mary (abt 1862), though this knowledge is based on census information rather than actually having found their birth or baptism registrations. But they may have been non-conformists so that might explain this?
The names Walter and Clement definitely come from the Scott side of the family (both Walter's brother and grandfather were Clements, as were a great many of fathers before that), and Mary was probably named after Walter's mother - so maybe Jane's mother was called Ellen? In any case it is a name I have not found in the tree before then.

Any help to smash down this brick wall is most welcome!!!
Kindest regards,
Lexi.
