Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Births/Deaths of Hills Ockbrook, Borrowash
« on: Saturday 28 August 21 09:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I was wondering if anyone could find some info for me please.

Im looking for the date that William Hill was buried at Ockbrook church in 1830,

Im looking for the morth of both Jemima Hill 1839 Borrowash, and William Hill 1840 Borrowash Derbyshire. I only know of their existence via the census of 1841. Jemima is seen subsequently, her father was William Millington. William Hill 1840 only appears on the 1841 census, but possibly is one of several who died before the 1851 census.

I believe their mother was Mary Hill 1819. I cannot find either Jemima or Williams record of birth which was a legal requirement after 1837.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Bastardy Bonds
« on: Monday 16 August 21 16:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Does anybody know where i can view Bastardy Bonds please?

Ive read in a local history book that there was a Bastardy Bond taken out against a William Hill in 1802, as he was cited as the father of Mary Fodens child. (Probably Ockbrook/Borrowash).

There were "Fodens" in the area, an unusual name.. but i cannot trace any child (unknown name) being born to a Mary Foden at all, let alone in 1802. Nor can i find a likely Mary Fodens birth in the area or any mention of her afterwards, except for a Mary marrying John Arnold at Ockbrook in 1807

Lancashire / Sir Arthur Wellesley
« on: Monday 26 October 20 11:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Does anybody know offhand whether the first duke of Wellington, Sir Arthur Wellesley has any Lancashire connections? My granddad apparently used to visit a big house (dont know where, he lived in Blackburn) with butlers, who were descendents in some way of Sir Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington. We are talking about the 1890's, and apparently a family member of ours (Shaw) married into an offshoot of the Wellesleys.

I can find no evidence of this, or of a Wellesley connection to lancashire, nor of where this big house of the Wellesleys could have been. I am assuming its in Lancashire because of the logistics of travelling in the 1890s.

The Common Room / tempest? what does that mean?
« on: Sunday 25 October 20 09:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Im not sure what this means, Thomas married "unknown" and produced an issue "tempest" , was Tempest an actual name or a word used to describe an illegitimate or unrecognised member of the family?

I can find no record of Tempest being used as a christian name, we are talking late 15th/early 16th century.

Lancashire / Missing records
« on: Sunday 11 October 20 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi

There are several missing records of known marriages, i was wondering why this was. These pertain to the Standish areas. The odd thing is that there are a lot of records for their children, but none anywhere including outside of Lancashire for the marriage.
If they had a catholic wedding would that make a difference? but if they did why baptise their kids in a C of E church where that was recorded.

The missing weddings are..
Thomas to isabella c1735
Alexander to Jane c1710
Alexander to Ellin c1658
John to Ann c 1636

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Francis and Rosina Hill
« on: Tuesday 31 March 20 14:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Im having trouble finding these people on the 1841 census. They had a daughter Rosina (after the mother) christened in April 1841 in Evesham. So i believe they were in Evesham when the census was conducted.

Has anyone got a further resource that might shed light on their whereabouts in 1841 please?

Tia
