Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Stapleton Churchyard
« on: Sunday 24 May 20 17:23 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I discovered today that my two Gt Aunts who died in the diphtheria epidemic of Oct 1894, were buried at Stapleton, despite living in Barwell.

Is there anyone who may live in the area, who could photograph the grave(s) for me please?

Lillie Powers 1889-1894 and Elsie Sara Powers 1890-1894.

My Aunt recalled them being up against a wall, if that's any help.
Thank you very much indeed.

Staffordshire / Brierley Hill, Staffordshire lookup request please
« on: Tuesday 05 May 20 10:31 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

My Great Grandfather, William Simpson was buried 19 August 1877 at Brierley Hill Baptist Church in South Street.

His grave number is: Grave 3 D. South Western. I don't know the exact death date.

Would it be possible for someone locally to have a walk to the churchyard and see if the grave still exists. If it does, would it be possible to photograph it for me? His wife was called Priscilla and I assume is on the same grave. She died 8 November 1875.
Thank you very much indeed

Rutland Lookup Requests / Braunston in Rutland Jonathan Spencer
« on: Tuesday 28 August 18 15:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I found an article in Stamford Mercury dated 5th Feb 1802 about Jonathan Spencer (senior).

It mentions that "any Creditors of Jonathan Spencer in Braunston, Rutland are hereby informed that a statement of his affairs will be laid before such as them who choose to attend at a meeting to be held at the house of Mrs Ann Green, known by the sign of the Red Lion in Oakham, on Saturday 20th Feb 1802 for that purpose."

I am assuming that this refers to his death and relates to debts... and for people to attend the meeting to claim from his estate.

The PROBLEM is I can't find any record of his burial. Is there anyone who lives near Braunston in Rutland OR Leics Record Office, who may be able to check burials or grave stones at Braunston for him?

He was born in 1758.

Thank you to anyone who may be able to help me. It is very much appreciated.

Hello,
I discovered this morning that my 6th Gt Grandparents, William Spencer and Sarah are buried at Kirby Muxloe and have a Monumental Inscription.

William Spencer 1703 - 21st August 1773 from Sherman's Lodge
Sarah,  his wife... 1710 - 14th Nov 1787

I would be very grateful if anyone could photograph this for me please.

I know Sherman's Lodge was replaced by Frith House and is now in Glenfield Hospital grounds. Does anyone know of any drawings that may have been made of the Lodge prior to Frith House being built?
Thank you very much for any help anyone can give me

Hello,
I have the marriage register for this couple: Jonathan Spencer married Frances Fowkes on:
10th August 1778 in Rothley, Leicestershire and I know Jonathan was from Braunston in Rutland.

The register says they married by License but I can't find the License.

The information from the License that I'm looking for is the possible age of Jonathan, to pinpoint his birth and where he may have been born. I know he was a farmer.

I found a baptism in 1758 in Anstey in Leicestershire which may be him. His wife Frances was born in 1747 though. She could have been 9 yrs older than him but I'm unsure if this is my Jonathan.

I haven't found a burial for him either.
Frances died in 1827 in Langham, Rutland.
Thank you very much for any help or insight into this.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Northampton Gaol 1802
« on: Monday 18 June 18 16:58 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
An ancestor of mine called Jonathan Spencer born 1781 in Braunstone, Rutland was sent to Northampton Gaol in 1802 for stealing sheep etc under the alias of John Smith.

From archives on Find My Past and Newpaper records in the year of 1802, he was sentenced to death.
A letter and petition with many signatures was sent to Whitehall for leniency, as he was 'from a good home' but I don't know whether he was pardoned. The response was made on the 17th Aug 1802 from Whitehall and all it says is they will let them know of the verdict.

Does anyone have access to Northampton Gaol records that may give further information please?
Thank you very much indeed.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Kirkby Mallory
« on: Thursday 10 May 18 17:29 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I discovered yesterday that I have eight consecutive generations of women on my maternal side who were literate; going back to 1766, which I thought was quite amazing.
I have cropped all their names from scanned marriage records, but I have one missing.

George James Wright married Matilda Bacon on 21st June 1859 at Kirkby Mallory.
Is there anyone who may be able to take a photo of the record for me?
I am cropping and pasting all the names I have to do a begat list which I'm planning to put in my Bible. It would be great to have them all.

I think it must be very unusual for a woman in 1766 aged about 21, to be able to write. I can't find her baptism so I don't know who taught her. Sarah Pye of Smisby in Derbyshire.

Thank you to anyone who may be able to help.
