Derry (Londonderry) / Pickett of Londonderry
« on: Friday 16 March 18 17:17 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for ANY information on a Picket/Pickett family. My ancestor Mark Pickett immigrated to Albany New York on 27 May 1834 at the age of 26 with his younger brothers John age 20 and Robert age 18. The name was spelled as PICOTT on the ships register.. All from Londonderry. Mark was naturalized in May 1839 in Albany. The person vouching for him was a William Pickett....do not know the relationship between them. Any records at all would be much appreciated.

Derry (Londonderry) / How can someone in the US get a copy of this Will?
« on: Friday 02 June 17 18:08 BST (UK)  »
PRONI D668/146/2. 28 July 1832 Copy of will of Thomas Hogg. Beneficiaries wife Molly; sons Thomas, Alexander, John; daughters Jane, Mary. Executors; Cornelieus Foy [Toy] and Alexander Foy [Toy].

Original Documents :   The original documents referred to in this index DO exist. Further information can be found under the PRONI reference above.
This would be located at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. (PRONI)

Is there a way to pay for a copy and have it sent to me? I'm afraid a trip to Ireland isnt a possibility and I'm convinced given the time frame and the names involved that this is the Will of my 4th Great Grandfather.

Can anyone tell me what sort of information is recorded on a death record in Ireland ca. 1885?

I'm pretty sure I've found both my 3rd & 4th great grandfather's listed in Griffith's Valuation, Thomas Hogg Jr., and Thomas Hogg Sr both in Caheny, and know from Thomas Jr's NY city, New York death cert. that he was born in 1807. This Thomas Hogg may be Sr. The age and area would be about right

CITING THIS RECORD

"Ireland Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FT7Y-QMC : accessed 1 November 2015), DEATHS entry for Thomas Hogg; citing Coleraine, Jan - Mar 1885, vol. 1, p. 382, General Registry, Custom House, Dublin; FHL microfilm 101,593.

I'm sure it was a common name so I can't be certain. Sure would like to find something to either prove or disprove. I know from Thomas Jr.'s death cert. that his father was a Thomas with a wife Mary, and Thomas Hogg is listed as "of Caheny on his marriage announcement in Belfast Newsletter. 103 years old couldn't have been all that common...maybe his death was mentioned in an area newspaper but I couldn't find it on the Ancestry site.
