Lancashire Lookup Requests / Westhoughton. Marriage of John Snape
« on: Sunday 28 January 18 14:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Is there anyone in the Westhoughton area who could look for a marriage between John Snape and a Sarah? This lady was born in Westhoughton in about 1785, according to the census.
They had a son, Joseph who was born in 1818, so I assume they married a few years before that, especially if he wasn't their first born.
Any information will be much appreciated.

Europe / Ancestors of Marc Isambard Brunel
« on: Wednesday 18 January 17 17:01 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find information about the parents and earlier ancestors of Marc Isambard Brunel. His parents, Jean Charles Brunel and Marie Victoire (nee Lefebvre) were well-off farmers from Hacqueville, Normandy in the 1760/70s when Marc was born.  I am particularly interested in his mother, Marie Victoire Lefebvre and if anyone knows of a French family history resource, accessible in/from UK, I would be pleased to hear.

Huntingdonshire / John Robert Burrows Eaton ELY
« on: Wednesday 30 March 16 16:43 BST (UK)  »
My great grandfather, was the illegitimate son of Caroline Ely. He was born in St Ives 1860. Caroline was also born in St Ives but lived in London . Soon after the birth of her son she returned to London and he was brought up in St Ives by his grandparents, John and Mary Ely.
I suspect that he was named John after his grandfather but the middle three names are a puzzle. Was Caroline giving a clue about who his natural father was?
Does anyone recognise those three names?

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Great Finborough Parish Records- DAVEY
« on: Sunday 20 March 16 10:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi ,
I would be grateful if someone could look up a marriage in Great Finborough in about 1830s, before Civil Registration. The groom was Daniel Davey and his bride's name was Mary Ann  (surname and father's name unknown). In the census returns, her birthplace is given as Portugal in about 1814 which makes me think her father was possibly a soldier in the Peninsular war who took his wife along with him, as did many soldiers.
Daniel and Mary Ann were my 3x great grandparents.
Thanks

World War One / From Galipolli to Royal Victoria Hospital
« on: Friday 18 December 15 13:27 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if any records of casualties/patients admitted to the Southampton hospital survive?
Blackburn born Edward Arthur Dawson suffered from what I think must have been 'shell shock' and was sent from Galipolli to Southampton. According to his long deceased brothers, he 'went mad' and spent the rest of his life wandering about the country. No one living knows what happened to him and I haven't yet found his army record.
Any advice appreciated

Derbyshire / Madresfield Court Archives Derbyshire

Earl Beacham of Madresfield Court was allocated land at Newhaven near Hartington in Derbyshire during the Enclosures.  He later sold the land to the Bateman family I think ?
My 4 x great grandfather farmed the land from the early 1800's and I am trying to find out if he was a tenant of the Earl in the Heanor area before that ?

The Common Room / Irene Maud Canham
« on: Friday 20 November 15 21:05 GMT (UK)  »
I found a photograph in a charity shop book. The info on the back tells me that it was taken on 14th June 1919 of 5 years old  Irene Maud Canham. I found the marriage her parents, Sidney Alfred Canham  and Lilian Rose Nichols, in Dalston in 1911. If anyone knows of this family, I would love to return the photograph to a descendent.
