The Lighter Side / Ghost Signs
« on: Friday 27 October 23 14:56 BST (UK)  »
Historic England are asking people to share images and stories about 'Ghost Signs' this weekend. Ghost Signs are 'historic hand-painted advertising signs, or old shop signs preserved on buildings which have since changed use'.

Warwickshire / Places of the Past
« on: Thursday 25 November 21 13:27 GMT (UK)  »
The GB1900 gazetteer contains all the text from the Second Edition County Series Ordnance Survey maps, including farms, houses, roads etc.
I am developing a website called Places of the Past to search the gazetteer which I hope will be useful for family historians, and would appreciate comments and suggestions for improvement.
At the moment, coverage is limited to Warwickshire and Staffordshire, but I plan to eventually cover all the counties of England.

The main search page is here: http://www.klewis.org.uk/potp/index.php and tips for using the site are here: http://www.klewis.org.uk/potp/help.html

For anyone who isn't already aware, Ancestry.com is planning to discontinue 'Old Search' within the next 6 months >:(. They have a survey here http://ancestry.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_8ubNXU8IiQcxqVD if you would like to send feedback about 'Old Search'

Census and Resource Discussion / Family Tree Maker 2008 and Ancestry subscription
« on: Wednesday 10 October 07 20:29 BST (UK)  »
I'm considering buying Family Tree Maker 2008 Deluxe, which comes with 3 months access to Ancestry.co.uk. Amazon are selling it for £35, and 3 months sub to Ancestry would cost about £30. I am mainly interested in the Ancestry access, with a copy of FTM thrown in for a fiver. What I would like to know is: has anyone here bought FTM 2008 & used the Ancestry access? Would I be getting a standard Ancestry sub which I can use normally, or is it in some way tied to the FTM software? I realise FTM 2008 has only just been released, so I hope it's not too early for me to be asking.

Thanks in advance, Kathryn
