England / Catherine Hale Decie - Census 1891 and 1901l
« on: Wednesday 02 March 16 11:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I found Catherine in UK censuses from 1871 AND 1881. In 1871 she was in Brighton at a school or institution for the deaf.

In 1881 she was in Scilly at home with her parents who then died in 1884.

Catherine was born in 1857 in New South Wales, Australia and died in London, Holborn 1908. I havent seen her death certificate .

I am only interested in finding her in 1891 and 1901. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Scotland / Burial Place in Edinburgh?
« on: Tuesday 09 February 16 13:19 GMT (UK)  »
My ewlative died in Edinburgh in 1914 in Craiglockhart Poorhouse. He lived in the Grassmarket.

I have a copy of the death certificate signed by someone at the Poorhouse. I also have copies of his birth and marriage certificates and census entries up to 1901 all in Scotland.

I cannot find where he is buried? Tried newspapers - nothing. Edinburgh Council cemeteries - nothing. Surely there must be a record of burial somewhere.

Any suggestions - have I missed simething? Thanks

As an aside I could not find him in the 1911 census either.

Renfrewshire / Mearns Churchyard 1855
« on: Sunday 31 January 16 11:14 GMT (UK)  »
On a 1855 Death certificate it says my ancestor was buried in Mearns churchyard. I understand this is what is now Newton Mearns.

I've searched through a record of gravestones but no success in finding burial place. Any other suggestions about finding out more? Thanks

Lanarkshire / brick wall - where and when was John Murray born? Did Ann & Henry marry?
« on: Saturday 16 January 16 11:23 GMT (UK)  »
John Murray appears in 1851 census in Renfrewshire aged 22 married. He died in 1886 Glasgow.
John gives place of birth in 1851,61,71 and 81 censuses as Govan Barony.

He was the son of Ann McGraw and Henry Murray. Henry listed as provision merchant on 1886 death certificate.
Ann died in 1855 aged 70?. Death certificate gives her parents. She is buried in Mearns kirkyard, Newton Renfrewshire.
Ann in a "womans house" in 1851 census birtplace given as Ireland.

My brick wall - where and when was John born in 1829/30? Did Ann and Henry marry and if so where and when.

no luck in finding answer to these questions. Any help or suggestions would be welcome. Thanks
