How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / How do I reply to a post on RootsChat

I tried to 'reply' to a post and ask a question but when I hit 'reply' I was taken to a very long list of potential topics and could not see how to ask this specific person a question. Are there any circumstances where there is no message box? How unfortunate that my very first experience of trying to communicate was so complicated!
