Lancashire Lookup Requests / patchett family lancashire
« on: Saturday 14 September 19 20:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I would be grateful if anyone can help me figure a few things out, it's a little complicated so i'll do my best to explain.

In the 1911 census living in st leonards gate, Lancaster is Delilah Patchett and her two daughters, annie and may. Annie's birth year is stated as 1905/6 but I cannot find any birth registered anywhere around that time for her.

I know that Annie Patchett married William gamble in 1923, they are living in Lancaster in the 1939 register which states she was born in 1905, her sister may Patchett is unmarried and living with them, her birth year is 1909 yet the only birth I can find for a may patchet is 1907, the mothers maiden name is Bates, I have found a Delilah bates born 1870 in Oldham which fits with what is written in the 1911 census.

I am still unable to find a record for delilah's marriage to someone with the surname Patchett, I don't know where her husband is in the 1911 census as it still says she's married not widowed and there is no trace of the 3 children they lost according to the 1911 census, there is also no trace of Delilah Patchett in the 1901 census.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The Common Room / 20th century railway records
« on: Wednesday 02 January 19 19:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, I just thought I would post this on here in the hope someone may have had the same problem as me. I have been searching for the last couple of years for any employment records relating to my late fathers 40+ years working at derby loco and carriage works. He retired in the mid 80's just before privatisation, I have gone down every avenue I can think of including local and national archives, ancestry, network rail, bombardier (who now operate on the site), the national railway museum, I even contacted my local MP who kindly got in touch with the department of transport for me and even they don't seem to have a clue as to the whereabouts of the records of literally thousands of people that would have worked there during my dads time. Anyway, would love to hear from anyone who's had similar difficulty or can open up any new avenue's for me, thanks.

South Africa / port elizabeth stannard's
« on: Wednesday 02 January 19 19:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, i am searching for information about relatives of mine that lived in port elizabeth. I know a fair amount already, Arthur stannard was born in derby, uk in 1880 he moved to port elizabeth and married cecelia comfort haynes (also from the uk) in 1906. They had 3 children, arthur montague 1907-1970, phillis victoria b1908 and mona 1914-2007. Arthur snr was a dentist and i believe his son was too. I am interested in finding the marriage records for the children, i believe mona married someone with the surname 'mitchell' and phillis married a graham hoole, i would like to know if arthur jnr married and any other bits of information as i believe they all lived in roughly the same area for most of their lives. Thanks in advance.

The Common Room / Derby Druids/freemasons
« on: Monday 05 November 18 15:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, apologies if this belongs in another section of the forum.
I have just come across a newspaper article in which I believe my great great grandfather is mentioned, it is from the Derbyshire advertiser October 1871.

The first sentence reads - "The anniversary dinner of the loyal rose of Sharon lodge no. 610 of the order of druids was held at the Talbot inn, irongate, (Derby) on Saturday evening last"

A Bro P.Stannard is mentioned in the article, i have done extensive research on my family around this period and there is only one p.stannard living in derby at this time but i have not come across any connection to druids or freemasons before.

I have had a good look online to try and find out more based on the details in the article but cannot find anything, if anyone has any advice on where i might be able to get more information i would be extremely grateful.

Dublin / James Smyth Dublin
« on: Friday 17 March 17 16:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, I am trying to trace the birth/baptism and the parents of a james smyth, born in Dublin.
The only census he appears in is 1901 where his age is stated as 33, he married Margaret geraghty in 1889, his father was Thomas (from his marriage certificate) and was already deceased at the time of marriage.

There is quite a few jame's born in the correct timeframe with Thomas as father but need someone who could offer there opinion as to who is the most likely one as I am not familiar with researching irish ancestry at all,

Thanks.

The Common Room / need help finding a connection between 2 people in my family tree
« on: Monday 02 January 17 21:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, i am trying to figure out a relationship within my family tree and i'm hoping someone will be able to give me some assistance.

Christiana livick (seems to be many variations of the surname) was my 3x great grandmother, as far as i can gather she was born in norfolk in 1797, i believe this is her baptism, http://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5818f69ee93790eca3288bfc?search_id=586aba80f493fd02ca9687de  she went on to marry robert stannard in 1817, they had a son (philip stannard), robert died in 1819 and christiana and philip had moved to derby by the time of the 1841 census where they appear sperately. This is where i am struggling to make a connection, christiana married thomas revel in derby in 1839, on the marriage reegister it stated her father as samuel lovick, not livick. In the 1841 census philip is living with a samuel lovick and his wife emma (was brownsword) it is the connection between these people which i just cannot find. I thought it was most likely the Samuel that philip was lodging with would be his uncle, as he was a similar age to christiana but i cannot find a samuel lovick/livick born to another samuel lovick/livick to make him christiana's brother,
this is the closest thing i can find but his mother is not charlotte chilley, http://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5818ce3fe93790eca3dd2428?search_id=586ab830f493fd7aa396a05c Any assistance would be appreciated.
