Lanarkshire / Robert McClutchy b. 1807 Glasgow area

Hello,

I am researching my 5th ggrandfather, Robert McClutchy who emigrated from Glasgow to Quebec. Canada census records shows he was born 1807 in Glasgow. That's as far back as I can get. Wondering if he is related to the McLatchies and the spelling was changed upon immigration.

Also, I found a criminal record in the UK in the 1820s of a Robert McClutchy (spelled that same way) who was acquitted for larceny for receiving stolen goods. That lead me to believe maybe it wasn't a different spelling, but not sure. I cannot find any birth/baptism records under that names, same spelling in Scotland. Any help much appreciated!  Thanks.

Hello -
I am looking for information on possible relatives of my fifth gg Robert McClutchy born 1807 in or near Glasgow. He married Bridget McManus and emigrated to Quebec City, Canada in the early 1850s. I am unable to find his birth record, or any names for parents/siblings with that spelling.

Could McClutchy a misspelling of the much more common spelling McClatchy or McClatchie? Does anyone know the reason for the difference in spelling? There is a book by William Carleton called Valentine McClutchy: The Irish Agent.

If you have any info on the McClutchy line in Scotland/Ireland around that time period, I'd love lear more.

Thanks,
Sarah
