Tyrone / Tyrone Land Grants - 1611 through 1667
« on: Tuesday 01 March 22 14:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Does anyone know if any of the land grant documents from James I, Charles I or Charles II (about 1611 - 1667) still exist, and if so, where they can be found? I am studying the early ownership of a number of townlands in Tyrone and I was thinking perhaps the actual grant documents might hold more information than the abstracts that I am finding. Is there any chance these might be safely held in Scotland or Ireland, as opposed to burned in Dublin in 1922?

Thank you.

Ireland / Cousin vs. Nephew to Describe Relationship in 1765
« on: Wednesday 26 January 22 16:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am working on figuring out relationships between various members of a family in Dublin and in Co. Tyrone in the mid-1700s. I believe I have figured out the most plausible structure, except that in this structure one person, in his will dated 1765, refers to the son of his sister as cousin rather than nephew. Does anyone know of any situations back then where someone would refer to their nephew as a cousin? Did that ever happen? These two people are definitely of two different generations in the same family, with one being about 30 years older than the other. Note that it is possible that the first person was a half-brother to the mother of the nephew, sharing the same mother but different father. Could that change how they described their relationships? Or, does this all indicate a flaw in the family structure I am building?

Any and all thoughts are welcome.

Thank you.

Armagh / Anne Cole/Clarke in Armagh and Dublin 1600s - 1700s
« on: Saturday 17 July 21 17:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking for a woman named Anne who married Thomas Clarke of Ardress, probably in the late 1690s. User-submitted information on FamilySearch trees indicated her name was Anne Cole. Naturally, this was posted without any sources cited. While these random user-submitted facts can be dubious, I believe it is possible this could be based on an existing fact from somewhere – I have been able to confirm numerous other unsourced facts in FamilySearch trees, so why not this? So far though I am not finding anything that can support this via FamilySearch, Ancestry or PRONI. All I know of Anne is that she was born probably in the 1670s and probably in Armagh. Her husband, Thomas Clarke, died in about 1708, and I believe she might be the Anne Clarke who died in Dublin in about 1752 (as indicated in the TSF Paterson notes found on Armagh County Museum’s website).

Does anyone have any sources that show her name was Anne Cole? Any suggestions on where I could be looking to find this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Oxfordshire / Webb Family Research in/near Banbury
« on: Thursday 15 April 21 22:20 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am trying to find the origins of Samuel Webb, who at the time of his marriage in Derbyshire in 1805 was a boat builder from Banbury. If his reported age was correct on both the 1841 census and his death certificate, he was born between June 1780 and April 1781. Reviewing all of the transcribed records on Ancestry, Familysearch and Findmypast, I have found only one Samuel Webb born in this time period who is not accounted for elsewhere. A Samuel Webb, son of Joseph Webb of Wellesbourne, coincidentally not far to the north of Banbury, was baptized December 8, 1780, and is my prime candidate. Samuel's mother died a week after he was baptized, and that is the last record I could find of his parents anywhere, or of Samuel until his marriage. I believe I may have completely exhausted the three sites mentioned above. Does anyone have access to or suggestions for other records in or near Banbury that are not included in those sites that could help place this family in or near Banbury? Directories, other town/church records, or anything else?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Lanarkshire / Church of Ireland to Glasgow?
« on: Thursday 28 May 20 20:10 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking for church records for a family that moved from Ireland to Glasgow in the 1830s. They were affiliated with Church of Ireland in Belfast before moving. In Glasgow they originally lived on North Woodside Road and in about 1850 moved to Cowcaddens Road.

What church or churches in that area of Glasgow might this family have been affiliated with around 1850, assuming they stayed with something relatively similar to Church of Ireland?

Thank you.

Tyrone / Ballygawley Protestant Church Burials
« on: Friday 27 July 18 13:23 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for burial records at the Ballygawley Protestant or Presbyterian Church. Specifically, I am looking for Henry Hunter, who was buried there sometime in the early 1800s. I am also looking for his wife, either Ellen or Elizabeth, along with records of any other members of the Hunter family. Any assistance with this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Staffordshire / James Turner - Victualler/Innkeeper in Burton-Upon-Trent
« on: Tuesday 09 May 17 18:49 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for more information about James Turner of Burton-Upon-Trent. He was born there in 1805, lived briefly in Nottingham in the 1840s where he was described as a licensed victualler in his son's birth record, before moving back to Burton. In the 1861 census he was listed as a "brewer's clerk" on Union Street, while in his probate records in 1868 he was described as an innkeeper, presumably still on Union Street. Is there any way to determine the name and nature of his business in Burton-Upon-Trent (or Nottingham)? If these are not public records does anyone have any suggestions on exactly where I might find them?

Leitrim / Ballinaglera/Drumreilly Cemetery Records
« on: Wednesday 30 November 16 18:07 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to cemetery/burial records in Ballinaglera Parish (Drumreilly Civil Parish). I am looking specifically for Patrick and Anne McGreal (possible variations on the name spelling) of Cornaguillagh. I've posted here previously about them and have subsequently learned they died in Cornaguillagh -- Patrick on December 8, 1907, and Anne on September 23, 1909. I suspect they were buried in Ballinaglera, possibly in Fahy Cemetery, but I have yet to find any records. Given their financial situation it's possible they had unmarked graves. Any suggestions or leads would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Cavan / Looking For Anne McLaughlin
« on: Saturday 30 April 16 03:35 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information whatsoever about Anne McLaughlin who, according to the 1901 Census, was born about 1841 in Co. Cavan. She married Patrick McGreal of Co. Leitrim and had at least two daughters, Anne (b. 1863 in Co. Leitrim) and Mary (b. 1866 in Carrick on Shannon, Leitrim).

I have found very little about this family and would appreciate any leads anyone might have.
