Family History Beginners Board / John Cole, Witchampton, Dorset. died 1636
« on: Saturday 17 December 16 01:55 GMT (UK)  »
The above person was the esquire of Witchampton village in Dorset and owned/lived in the manor house. I am trying to find out where he was born and what year, and why he was vested to Witchampton. I only know the limited information I found on the Witchampton OPC web page and there is a large wall memorial in the church dedicated to him. I have googled his name but I can't seem to find anything. If anyone can find anything, I would be very grateful :)

Thanks

Been tearing my hair out for weeks trying to find my great grandmother, I am almost bald! If any of you clever people can help me I would be eternally grateful.

Mary Jane Davey married James Collins in Wareham in 1889. According to the marriage document, she was 30 which means she was born around 1859. Her father is shown as Frederick Davey, occupation Licensed Victualler.

Two census records I have found show that she was born in Beaminster, Dorset, and the ages on these were a bit different which means she may have been born in 1862 or 1863.

I have found a Frederick Davey from Stoke Abbot, Dorset, born abt. 1842 and married to Mary Ann Bugler. They had 5 children, the eldest being Jane Davey, born 1863. I am wondering whether Jane Davey is in fact Mary Jane as she may have changed her name later. Or possibly Mary Jane was born around 1859 and born out of wedlock and brought up by another member of the family. Or maybe I have just got the wrong Frederick Davey.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks x

I believe John Coombs is my 2nd great grandfather. He was first married to Ann (Williams?) in 1811 and they had 6 children, John, Many Ann, Thomas, Louisa, Martha, & Jane. Ann died in 1844 and John remarried to Sarah Russell in 1845. I can't see that they had any children. My second great grandmother was living and working in Bristol at the time and this is where she must have met John. At some point after the 1861 census (because this is the last time I can see him living with his wife Sarah), he moved to Cardiff and was living with my second great grandmother. She had three children between 1862 and 1865. She and John never married. My mother remembers the family secret that he great grandmother was not married to the man she lived with although, when he died, she was classed as a 'widow'.  What I am trying to find are the records for Sarah's death and also John's parents. If anyone happens to be related to the same John Coombs and has any information, I would be grateful.
