The Common Room / imbecile & feeble-minded
« on: Friday 21 May 04 13:26 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have further explanations on column 17 on the census returns?  1) Deaf and dumb 2) Blind 3) Lunatic 4) imbecile and feeble-minded.
I have several people who are 'normal' in 1891, but by 1901 are ticked as belonging to one of the above categories.

Just wondered if anyone could shed light on what the categories really meant - how could someone be employed if they were regarded as  Lunatic, for example?

Completed Census Requests / 1861 & 1871 Census
« on: Thursday 20 May 04 18:43 BST (UK)  »
Is there anybody out there kind enough to do a quick look up for Irvin (variations:Irvine or Irving) in 1861/71?

Mother Margaret (b. Belfast or Scotland depending on record c. 1843), children George (b. c.1863 scotland), Elizabeth (b. c1866 Liverpool), Sarah Jane (b. c.1870 Newcastle) (all birthplaces a little questionable).
By 1881 they are living in Kirkdale area of Liverpool - mother a widow.

Fingers crossed  :)

Found a really excellent site for anyone looking in the Calderdale area -

http://www.calderdale.gov.uk -

There is an area called from Weaver to Web and features hundreds of intriguing documents and photos including parish records, surveys of residents etc.

Moderator comment: Please note that they have stated 2013 that they do not focus on Family History as Local History is quite a separate subject and the two subject should not be mixed!!

I am trying to locate the records of my great grandfather who died during the Balkans Conflict 1912-13.  Have had no success at all in tracking down his grave/records.
Anyone have any ideas?
