The Common Room / A word of warning!!
« on: Thursday 07 May 09 08:30 BST (UK)  »
 >:(
Be very careful when giving access to your tree. I was contacted by someone on another FH site (paid for I might add) asking about a name in my tree. As it turned out we did have a connection so I gave him access to my tree. Being busy at the time, I didn't check his tree very closely - that was my BIG mistake!! When time permitted, I checked his tree more closely and discovered that there was a very, very remote connection so contacted him and told him that I was withdrawing my access. He wasn't pleased but accepted. Have just done a google search for one of my brick wall ancestors and what did I find?
Oodles of info from my tree published on his public viewing site!!
To say that I'm annoyed would be an understatement because I did not give him permission to use this information and neither did he ask for it. One thing that I can smile about is that I've since found out that some of the information was wrong and he's copied it to his tree.
Even though I've read warnings of this kind before I fell into the trap so, if you're new to FH and put your tree onto any site - whether paid for or not - be very careful to whom you give access. I'm going to contact this bloke and ask him, politely, to remove my information. Can't do much about it if he won't but at least he will know my feelings.

Armagh / Can someone read the Brides mothers name please?
« on: Friday 30 May 08 06:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi guys
Am posting an extract from a marriage certificate here because the bride came from Armagh so hoping someone can read the name of the mother of the bride.  If I'm really lucky, someone may recoginse the lady as well!!

The bride was married in Queensland, Australia - her name Hannah Jane Kelly, groom William PORTER.

Father of the bride was William KELLY.  It's the mothers name that is causing me problems.  The first name is Martha but what is her maiden name?   :-\

Hannah was married in the Church of England church so protestent as was all the family who came out to Australia.

Many thanks for your help and I apologise for the poor quality of the scan.

The Common Room / Malpass family
« on: Friday 30 May 08 06:06 BST (UK)  »
:) :)
Some time ago, a poster was looking for information on the Malpass family in Nth Queensland (I think).  We were in Home Hill a couple of weeks ago,  visiting family, and my husband took a photo of the Malpass Hotel (now a backpackers hostel) in the main street of Home Hill.
If you would like a copy of this photo, drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send it to you.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / expert help needed
« on: Saturday 17 May 08 06:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi guys
I have a copy of my grandparents wedding photo which was taken with a digital camera from the original.
It's in jpeg format and 920 KB in size.
Is this OK to attach and see what you cleaver people can do to restore it a little for me or do I need to resize/downsize it before I post?  If so, can you lead me through the process of resizing etc as I'm pretty dumb when it comes to doing anything like that.   :P
Thanks for your help.  :)

I don't think I've asked for help with this one before but if I have I apologise for wasting your time  :D :D

Well, here goes.  Am looking for further infomation on my g grandmother, Vashti HUMPHREYS, BORN 1863, Notgrove, Gloucester, died 1925, Ayr, Queensland, Australia.
Father Lewis HUMPHRIS, mother Mary Ann JAMES. Already have extract from census as follows :-

Here is the 1871 census.
Louis Humphris 1838 Admington Gloucestershire.occ shepherd
Mary Ann wife 1838 Condicote Glouc.
Thomas son 1861 Condicote.
Vashti dau. 1863 Notgrove Glouc.
Albert son 1864 Barton Hill Glouc.
Reginald James 1867 Westall Hill Oxfordshire.
Mary Ann dau 1869 (no place of birth given)
family living Weston upon Avon Gloucestershire

1861 census
Thomas Humphris 1803 Condicot Glouc.occ ag.lab
Dianna wife 1803 Longborough Glouc.
LEWIS HUMPHRIS son 1838 Condicot occ shepherd
family living cottage Condicote..

1851 census.
Thomas Humphress 1802 Condicote occ ag.lab
Dinah wife 1804 Longborough.
LEWIS HUMPHRESS son 1838 Condicote.
Hannah dau 1841 Condicote.
living Condicote.
(supplied by a kind lady on GR).

Lewis married twice, the second time to Mary SHEPHERD in 1872 (who had 2 children from a previous relationship) and I have a family story, written by this Mary's great grand daughter, which states that Lewis and Mary Anne (James) had 6 children who were put into an orphanage and returned to their father after his second marriage.

The family came to Australia on the "John Rennie". leaving Plymouth in 1872, arriving Bowen, Qld, Aust in 1873.

Have checked the IGI but no record of Vashti's birth but extracted records of James & Ester (b1865, d 1865) and Albert, b. 1864.

Can SKS verify Vashti's birth and birth of her siblings please?  Also, if it's not stretching the friendship too much date and place of marriage of Lewis HUMPHRIS and Mary Ann JAMES?

TIA and all the best of good wishes for 2008.
